Intro
Today we will move to a different kind of landscape, something beautiful, a special adventure in the city of Alghero, a historic city known for the traces of the stronghold that surrounds it.
We left after a wonderful visit to the Neptune's cave (I leave the post below to read the description of one of the most beautiful experiences of my vacation in Sardinia).

Visiting Alghero
Alghero is a city located on the west coast of Sardinia, the peculiarity of this city is its close twinning with Catalonia (Spain) in fact Alghero is also named "Little Barcellona" for its typical Spanish habits.
Everything you do, you eat and you listen here remember the Spain and its great culture.
Actually the name of this city derives from a the ancient latin word "Algherium" that describes a place where there iis a stagnation of algae, than the name was transformed in the Spanish version L'Alguer and the Italian one Alghero.
The Spanish influence here derives from the Middle Ages when the city was conquered by the Spanish and becomes a part of the Crown of Aragon (1336 - 1387).
The most particular things in Alghero are the military architectures that derives from lots of steps of city development: from the middle age until the second word war.
As you can see in the photos we have very tall walls along all the city perimeter in witch we can find towers and other military construction that are called "bastioni" (in English bastion).
Today, the bastions are the main meeting point for locals and one of the most popular attractions for visitors.
I must say that these military architectures present all over the city have become real architectural elements in which the history of the city blends together with the novelty of Alghero's huge tourist port and the characteristic old town.
As you can see from the map, the bastions of Alghero are right on the border of the historical city and divide it from the sea, a real fortress.
As you can see there is a very big and beautiful port in Alghero, is one of the greatest tourist port of the island.
The historical center of the city is full of beautiful architectural buildings, stunning stone palaces and small characteristic houses with a magnificent view of the port
Alghero is the capital of coral, in the center there are many stores that sell coral, with a beautiful red color, a perfect souvenir to take home a memory of Alghero.
A beautiful sunset
When you look at a city guide, or when you search on the internet what you can do in Alghero, everyone talks about the extraordinary sunset seen from the ramparts, I was a bit skeptical at first but I wanted to try this experience.
Something fantastic! The sun slowly disappears behind the horizon, but its movement becomes faster and faster as it goes down.
Very nice some reconstructions of medieval defensive weapons that are installed along the ramparts, these are catapults reconstructed in a very faithful way compared to the original versions.
A magnificent bright red sunset, the sun always gives us these really magnificent shows, especially in contrast to the clouds that were present in the sky.
Conclusion
The last thing I want to talk about is relaxation, Alghero has a beautiful beach where you can lie down and relax even if the weather is not the best, some clouds in the sky of Alghero.
All that's left is for us to enjoy a good pizza and get ready for the next adventure.
Photo bonus
Here some bonus shot of the city, four charactristic point of the city: the difensive tower, the ancient part of the port, and a old disco club that now is closed and ruined.
And you? Have you ever been in Alghero? Where you saw your best sunsets?
