Fishing Harry Atkinson Reef Moreton Bay Australia 🎣 πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί

On Tuesday the power company were doing work on our street and shut off our electricity for the day so I couldn't work from home... So what better way to spend the day then to head out on my mates boat and try my luck with catching my first ever fish!

The plan was to head out to Harry Atkinson artificial reef in Morton Bay in Queensland.

We launched the boat at Raby Bay then made our way to the artificial reef which was about a 20 minute boat ride.

A little bit about the Harry Atkinson artificial reef.

The Harry Atkinson artificial reef was first established in 1975 and covers 34 hectares.
At first they deployed 17000 old car tyres and in 1987 they added 200 old shopping trolleys.
It seems like it was a dumping ground in the bay. They added quarried rock to help for hiding holes for small fish.
In 2010 they sunk an old tuna fishing boat the Tiwi Pearl which is 24 metres long.

The water was very calm and a pod of dolphins swam by. About 10 minutes into the trip we saw some birds swooping the water and there was a school of mackrel tuna feeding. Rick quickly got his lure rod out and started casting into the school. The 3rd cast he was on!

He battled with this fish for about 2 minutes until he finally reeled him in. This guy was huge! About 7kg.

This was a great start to the day. Straight after that a young humpback whale swam past, as the humpbacks are migrating north at the moment so that is always an awesome sight!

We finally arrived at the reef and anchored up. Chris dropped his line in and caught a sting ray. We got the hook out and let him go.

The fish were biting and we pulled in so many Squire. Which are baby snapper and are also under size so we let them all go, as we kept trying our luck for some snapper for dinner.

We berley up the water with some old bait and bread then a cuttlefish came up to the boat to eat it so we got the net out to catch him as they are great eating. Once on the boat he had a different idea and squirted us with his ink haha. Well played cuttlefish, well played.

The fish were biting and we caught about 20 squires. But released them all to tell there bigger brother to get on the line.

This has always been on my things to do. Catch a fish then cook it. And I have never had much luck while out fishing. I have always loved eating seafood and I needed to experience it for real, instead from the corner fish and chip shop. And today was the day!

A green sea turtle popped up in front of the boat for a quick breath. It's crazy how much sea life is out here only a short boat trip from Brisbane.

Rick pulled in a flathead which we took home for dinner aswell.

What an awesome fishing trip this was!

Now we had enough for dinner so we headed back to the boat ramp. To get the boat back and give it a wash and fillet the fish.

Now we wanted to make dinner quick and easy as it has been a big day so we crumbed the cuttlefish with some panko crumbs.

And coated the snapper and flathead in a flour and egg mix.

And made up some wraps with kewpie mayonnaise, cheese and some salad.

Damn nothing tastes better then a fresh fish, it was so delicious!!

And I can now tick off the catch and cook my own fish off my list 😊

Thanks for stopping by and let me know in the comments the best fish you have ever caughtπŸ‘
