Exploring around Maardu, Estonia

First time in Maardu for me. It's a very small town next to Tallinn that is next to a big industrial area with the biggest Cargo Harbour in Estonai, Muuga Harbour.

In this photo is the Iru Power plant, that generates heat and electricity mostly for Maardu and Lasnamäe. It is a co-generation powerplant that uses natural gas, mixed municipal waste and for reserve fuel oil. It's owned by Enefit Green, that just had the IPO, and should start trading next week.

Also fun fact, I just learned: Estonian previous president Kersti Kaljulaid was a director of this power plant 2002-2004. Estonia just got a new president this week - Alar Karis.

About 15 000 people live there, and from that about 60% are Russians, 20% Estonians and another 20% other nationalities.

Sea-buckthorn, orange fruit, that contains a lot of vitamin C and other good things.

14.jpg

Colorful apartment buildings. The city has a lot of them. Similar to Lasnamäe and Mustamäe, but in smaller quantities.

15.jpg

Maardu Archangel Michael Church from far away, it's in sreat condition, didn't go inside this time.

The tallest apartment building in Maardu with 12 floors.

It's a pretty calm small town. But there's also a lot of people moving around on the streets.

18.jpg

And they are renovating the buildings, so the city is developing. So not a dead city, but well alive.

Now back to Tallinn into the sunset.

Thank you for your attention! It was interesting to discover another small town, I had not visited before. But would have to come back, because there's much more to discover.
