Few years ago I was on TransAlpina in June, and at high altitude there was still snow.

I think that TransAlpina competes as one of the most beloved tourist attractions in the country.
In Urdele pass the road reaches a maximum height of 2145m (7038ft).

TransAlpina connects the cities of Novaci in Gorj County and Sebeș in Alba County, crosses four counties - Gorj, Vâlcea, Sibiu, Alba - crossing the Parâng Mountains from south to north.

Being a mountain road, it is closed during the winter.

The beginnings of the construction of the TransAlpina road are still unclear.

Some documents claim that it was first built by the Roman legions during the wars with the Dacians.
According to other documents, the road was built and paved by the Germans during the First World War.
TransAlpina was rebuilt in the interwar period and put into use in 1935, when it was inaugurated by King Carol II, receiving the name of the ,,King's Road,,.

Today, the road is almost completely modernized and is accessible to all vehicles weighing up to 7.5 tons. TransAlpina can be considered a tourist attraction.

In the highest area, located between Rânca and Obârșia Lotrului, the snow usually persists from November to May-June. Depending on the arrival and melting of snow, the road can be either closed or open to the traffic.
