Hello everyone! This time I want to share with you the experience of how we set off towards one of the best known routes among Venezuelan hikers called "Train of Enchantment". Learn about this trip full of adrenaline, fun, vertigo and more!
¡Hola a todos! En está ocasión quiero compartir con ustedes la experiencia de cómo partimos hacia una de las rutas más conocidas entre los excursionistas venezolanos llamada "Tren el encanto". Conoce de este viaje llena de adrenalina, diversión, vértigo y más!
The beggining
At seven in the morning we depart from Caracas to the city of Los Teques by bus, in order to begin our excursion. The beginning of the route was flat, we crossed a gate that serves as security for some houses that are near the entrance, around it there is a dirt road, trees and a lot of mountains.
El inicio
A las siete de la mañana partimos de Caracas a la ciudad de Los teques en bus, para así comenzar nuestra excursión. El inicio de la ruta era plana, cruzamos un portón que sirve de seguridad para algunas casas que se encuentran cerca de la entrada, a sus alrededores hay un camino de tierra, árboles y mucho monte.
We began to descend between eight in the morning, a very steep place and with difficulty for those who have knee problems (like me), You had to be extremely careful not to slip (it happened to me once, hehe) and not to step on slippery places since the day before there were rains on those sides of the mountain.
Comenzamos a descender a las ocho de la mañana, un sitio muy empinado y con dificultad para quienes tienen problemas de la rodilla (cómo a mí), había que tener sumamente cuidado de no resbalarse (me pasó una vez, jeje) y de no pisar sitios resbalosos ya que un día anterior se presentaron lluvias por esos lados de la montaña.
During our trip we crossed four tunnels, three bridges, more than 30 abandoned wagons and the final stage: The locomotive. In most of the tunnels there were bats, passing through them and seeing these animals in their habitat, the ancient details inside the tunnels and playing with the lanterns was a great experience.
Durante nuestro viaje cruzamos por cuatro túneles, tres puentes, más de 30 vagones abandonados y la etapa final: La locomotora. En la mayoría de los túneles habitaban murciélagos, pasar por ellos y ver estos animales en su hábitat, los detalles de antigüedad dentro de los túneles y jugar con las linternas fue una experiencia genial.
His history
This route is known and important for having the wagons made up what was known as the Great Railway of Venezuela, which connected part of Caracas, Los teques and Valencia. Its construction began in 1887 during the mandate of Antonio Guzmán Blanco and was inaugurated in 1894 during the presidency of Joaquín Crespo.

Esta ruta es conocida e importante por tener los vagones conformaban lo que se conocía como el Gran ferrocarril de Venezuela, el cual conectaba parte de Caracas, Los teques y Valencia. Su construcción comenzó en el año 1887 durante el mandato de Antonio Guzmán Blanco y fue inaugurado en 1894 durante la presidencia de Joaquín Crespo.
A brief detail: Mainly I was struck by knowing this route since I read the history of the assault that took place in 1963 at the El Encanto station, on behalf of the Armed Forces of National Liberation -FALN-. Where this organization planned to appropriate the weapons that were transported from the teques to strengthen them. On that trip, there were clashes between the organization and the National Guard, leaving five dead and wounded women and children. Coincidentally, this assault was presented via the teques, which has been the route we take. That is, we covered part of where the events were presented. Amazing, right?
Un breve detalle: Principalmente me llamó la atención conocer esta ruta desde que leí la historia del asalto que se dió en el año 1963 en la estación el encanto, de parte de la Fuerzas Armadas de Liberación Nacional -FALN-. Dónde esta organización planeaba apropiarse de armas que transportaban de los teques para su fortalecimiento. En ese viaje, hubo enfrentamientos entre la organización y la guardia nacional dejando cinco muertos y mujeres y heridos niños heridos. Casualmente este asalto se presentó vía los teques, que viene siendo la ruta que realizamos. Es decir, recorrimos parte de dónde se presentaron los hechos. Increíble, no?
For me these were the most exciting thing on the trip, over the years many of them transformed their function into huge pots for trees and plants, seeing the deterioration of what was once one of the most important means of transportation in Venezuela was incredible to me.
Para mí estos eran lo más emocionante en el viaje, a través de los años gran parte de estos transformaron su función en enormes materos para árboles y plantas, ver el deterioro de lo que alguna vez fue uno de los medios de transporte más importante de Venezuela me resultaba increíble.
However, one of the most difficult places were the bridges since people who suffer from vertigo found it difficult to walk quietly on those sides, I felt brave to spend in a relaxed way. Most of the hikers crossed by crouching or sitting on these bridges.
Sin embargo, una de los sitios que más dificultoso fueron los puentes (rieles) ya que las personas que sufren de vértigo les costaba caminar tranquilamente por esos lados, me sentí valiente en pasar de manera natural. La mayor parte de los excursionistas cruzaban agachados o sentados por estos puentes.
At the end of the second bridge we find the locomotive, which despite being in the middle of nowhere, the rain, mud and the sun remain intact transporting all the visitors to the times of before.
Al final del segundo puente nos encontramos con la locomotora, que a pesar de estar en medio de la nada, la lluvia, los barros y el sol se mantiene intacta transportando a todos los visitantes a los tiempos de antes.
On the excursion we were 14 adults and three children, who ventured and enriched the history and experience of trekking.
En la excursión fuimos 14 adultos y tres niños, quienes se aventuraban y enriquecían de la historia y la experiencia de hacer trekking.
My experience
It was 13 kilometers during the trip and its level of difficulty is 7/10 due to the steep areas, the weeds (they burned me heavily) and slippery areas. However, it is a recommended route for children over 8 years old. If you are in Venezuela and you like hiking, I recommend that you visit this magical place sometime.
Mi experiencia
Fueron 13 kilómetros durante la travesía y su nivel de dificultad es de 7/10 debido a las zonas empinadas, las malezas (me quemaron fuertemente) y a las zonas resbalosas. No obstante, es una ruta recomendada para niños mayores de 8 años. Si estás en Venezuela y te gusta el senderismo, te recomiendo que pases alguna vez por este mágico lugar.
I want to end by saying that I am very happy to have achieved one of my goals, visiting this site and seeing in person what many times I came to appreciate in photos is one of the results most satisfying I have ever had in my life.
Quiero finalizar diciendo que me siento muy feliz de haber logrado uno de mis objetivos, visitar este sitio y ver en persona lo que muchas veces llegué apreciar en fotos es uno de los resultados más satisfactorio que he tenido en mi vida.
