Exploring Laguna Vere: An Abandoned Soviet Sports Complex 🇬🇪

Laguna Vere

Looking for interesting abandoned places — mostly Soviet and brutalist architecture one night at my hostel, I came across this place. I thought how interesting! A former Soviet aquatics complex, which was once the largest and grandest in the entire Caucus Region. It was also the first public pool in Tbilisi!

Operating from 1978 until 2014, it saw millions of Georgians — Olympians and amateurs. Those learning to swim and families taking a break on a hot Summer day. Synchronized swimming, diving, this place had everything. But alas, the Soviet Union fell, the complex was buried in a mudslide in 2013, and today it exists as two large lawns where pools used to be, decaying rooms, absent bleachers, and a whole bunch of stark concrete. (enough to make any brutalist fan happy)

This photo blog accompanies my video exploring the space, which you should really check out. And since you've read this far, why not follow, share, and perhaps support me in cryptocurrency? Enjoy.
