This Sunday I intend to take a walk with my husband in Wampu sub-district, Langkat Regency, with our travel time about 30 minutes from home. There are no plans for our trip today. We just wanted to walk around enjoying a pretty sunny Sunday morning.
For a moment I just remembered the memories a few years ago when one of our families held a wedding in one of the villages in the Wampu sub-district, namely the village of transverse names.
To reach this transverse village requires a high adrenaline because we have to cross the river on a simple raft which the local people call GETEK. Getek is a river transportation which is usually made of bamboo which is arranged and can float. However, the Getek that we rode consisted of two large canoes that were neatly arranged and pulled using a rope connected to a simple pulley to reach the other side, and above the canoe a building was made like a simple hut, and there were also seats and chairs. on top of the canoe is coated with steel zinc to become the base to make it much stronger. Actually, to ride this water transportation, I honestly don't dare, considering that there have been many GETEK accidents drowned here. For example, in 2019, GETEK in the Wampu sub-district took another victim, namely the drowning of 1 family in a car that fell into the Wampu river.
One Getek can accommodate more than 10 2-wheeled vehicles and 1 mini-bus type 4-wheeled vehicle. To ride this GETEK we will be charged Rp. 2,000 for 2-wheeled vehicles and Rp. 10,000 for four-wheeled vehicles, so it doesn't count as much per person.
To cross using our GETEK takes about 15 Minutes, a very long time for those who are very scared like me..he,he, but I try to calm down and not panic. And I pray that the water will not rise or flood because it is also very dangerous.
Actually, the local government has built a bridge for local residents to cross to the Melintang hill, but the bridge that was built is very far away for many kilometers and has to pass through several villages and is time consuming, so that until now local residents prefer to use this GETEK transportation.
Descending from Getek by walking uphill we stopped at a park known as Bukit Lintang. Actually, I just found out the fact when I was going to post about this area, that the transverse hill is the name of the village, because I think this transverse hill is the park I am currently visiting. but later in the next post, yes, for the transverse hill park, follow our journey.😊
A nostalgic journey that gets my adrenaline pumping. Because in modern times like this, water transportation is still in great demand by residents in this area. And this is the first time our favorite vehicle, which we call red, rides GETEK
How are you interested in riding this GETEK, warm greetings from us Tomi maya from Medan Indonesia. Thank you for being loyal and still supporting us.
