Col de la Seigne - Courmayeur - Refuge Bertone - meadow between Refuge Bertone and Bonetti

Day 2 - @loulou1987/tour-du-mont-blanc-day-2-qzwg37

Another beautiful morning, my alarm clock is waking me up and I am trying to persuade myself to get up from my warm sleeping bag. The night was incredibly cold, which is not surprising in such an altitude.

We are getting up and going to see the sunrise. We are on French-Italian borders.

On the left, Mont Blanc rises majestically.

Some minutes after 7 am., the sun is slowly coming out from behind the mountains.

And illuminating Mont Blanc on the opposite side.

We are enjoying the sunrise for about one hour and then we are going for our regular morning routine - to find the best and calmest place for toilet, to dry up our tents and sleeping bags, to make and have breakfast, to pack our things and set off. The whole procedure takes us usually about one and half hour.

Our plan for today consists mostly of descending, which sounds great to me. We are reaching the first Italian refugio on our way from Col de la Seigne, charging our mobiles, taking some water and after some short rest going on.

Italy is welcoming us with fog and it feels like being somewhere in a rough landscape of northern countries.

We are going on through a valley full of wetlands and then, our way is changing to a paved road. It feels good just to walk on a smooth road and not to think of stones you could step on.

We have replaced our usual "bon jour" with "buon giorno" but the people are still friendly and smiling.

After some time, we are coming to a small pub where we are having a short break for coffee, beer and dessert. One of the advantages of this trip is that we burn about 4 thousand kcal every day and we really don´t have to think about the volume of food which we can eat.

We are descending to Courmayeur, having a great view of the valley.

With a tasteful Italian pizza in our mind, we are looking for an open pizza restaurant. It is quite a naive idea because it is 3 pm and there is no restaurant with open kitchen. Quite disappointed, we are ending up in an American bar having a burger.

Having a new energy, we are ascending to Breton refuge. After the previous days, we already know that the ascent will not be a piece of cake.

After about 2 hours of steep ascent, we are reaching the refuge and filling up some water. We are not staying in the refuge but we are going on some more kilometers to find some nice place for our next night. Having another great view of the valley, we realize we are looking at the same village as in the morning but from the opposite mountain.

Finally, we are finding a perfect spot for our tents. As the weather forecast predicts rain for the night, we are all sleeping inside. We are in a great mood and after diner, we are so tired that we are falling asleep immediately.
