Monkey Rock, Lake Tahoe, Incline Village, Sand Harbor, California..

I got to say my most adventurous travels were the six months, I spend traveling across the USA with my cousin and sister-in-law and nearly one month of that was hiking and camping along the Nevada border in the northern Sierra Nevada mainly along Lake Tahoe hiking up mountains at heights of up to 1900 meters, here we came to see some of the most breathtaking views in the world and Monkey Rock was one of them, giving you panorama views of Lake Tahoe once reached the top.

The hiking trail that takes you up to Monkey Rock is about a 7.5 kilometer trail full of nature along the way at the time we were there hiking it was spring time the landscape along the way was filled with beautiful wild yellow flowers and the scent of those tall Cedar and Pine trees just made the journey much more comfortable and refreshing. Lake Tahoe is full of spectacular hiking trails and the best times to be hiking these trail anywhere along the northern Sierra Nevada is between April and October.

Once you have done this breathtaking hike to Monkey Rock you will never forget it, you know there is that one hike that, will always stay with you no matter what and this was one of them. They call it the Tunnel Creek Trail which starts of in Incline Village climbing up to a elevation of about 150 meters a very manageable adventure whether your fit or not very manageable, once you have reached the end of this trail you are on Monkey Rock hill from here you can see the whole 150km of white sand shoreline surrounding Lake Tahoe a truly spectacular view.

Another thing, I loved while hiking along the this trail to Monkey Rock is the bizarre rock formations apart from all the stunning views that Lake Tahoe has to offer, they say that Lake Tahoe’s spectacular views and beauty is world famous and having witnessed it for myself was a surreal experience looking down at the clear crystal freshwater blue lake will never be forgotten.

Our next stop was Sand Harbor to cool ourselves of and have a swim, Sand Harbor is located 32 km north of South Lake Tahoe, this is another lake within Lake Tahoe and there is a 5km paved trail and wooden bridges that connect Incline Village to Sand Harbor, a very impressive walk along here seeing all the views and beauty of Lake Tahoe.

Sand Harbor beach has crystal clear water with beautiful rock formation great for swimming, kayaking and scuba diving also great for water skiers and fisherman where they can easily launch there boats from one of the park’s two boat ramps. Also a ideal peaceful retreat for a picnic under the shady Cedar and Jeffrey tall Pine trees. Here we relaxed and enjoyed the peacefulness of Lake Tahoe till sunset and camped out for the night sleeping on the beach was the most rewarding adventure to be able to experience the beauty of the surreal beautiful nature surrounding us one place, I would go back in a heartbeat.
