I was led to this extraordinary place - the Royal Theater by the sounds of an instrument that was popular a long time ago... a harpsichord. It looks a bit like a piano, except that it has strings instead of keys. The rehearsal for the evening performance as part of the Baroque Festival was just underway. Artists from the Polish Royal Opera were to play "Orpheus", an opera created by Claudio Monteverdi. Here you can see amazing photos from the performance.
Do tego niezwykłego miejsca - Teatru Królewskiego, przywiodły mnie dźwięki wydawane przez instrument, na którym grało się dawno temu... klawesyn. Wygląda on trochę jak fortepian, tylko, że zamiast klawiszy ma struny. Właśnie trwała próba przed wieczornym spektaklem, w ramach Festiwalu Barokowego. Artyści z Polskiej Opery Królewskiej mieli zagrać tam "Orfeusza", operę stworzoną przez Claudio Monteverdiego. Tu możecie zobaczyć świetne zdjęcia z występu.
I admit that I was speechless when I looked around the theater room. On the boards with information about this place you could read that it is "The only one in Poland and one of the few in Europe of the preserved authentic 18th century court theaters." Wow! I noticed right away that this theater looks different than the theaters I know, more sophisticated. You can see amazing splendor here. "The wealth of painting and sculptural decorations on which the court artists of King Stanisław August worked."
Przyznam, że byłam pod dużym wrażeniem, gdy rozejrzałam się po sali teatralnej. Na tabliczkach z informacjami na temat tego miejsca można było przeczytać, że jest to "Jedyny w Polsce i jeden z niewielu w Europie z zachowanych autentycznych XVIII wiecznych teatrów dworskich." Wow! Od razu zauważyłam, że ten teatr wygląda inaczej niż znane mi teatry, bardziej elegancko. Można tu dostrzec niesamowity przepych. "Bogactwo dekoracji malarskich i rzeźbiarskich nad którymi pracowali nadworni artyści króla Stanisława Augusta."
The plaque also reads that "the interior of the theater is made of wood, which ensures amazing acoustics. It was covered with polychrome imitating marble. The auditorium was designed for 200 spectators". Interesting information. I never would have thought there was wood beneath those marble walls.
Na tabliczce można też przeczytać, że "wnętrze teatru wykonane jest z drewna co zapewnia niesamowitą akustykę. Zostało pokryte polichromią naśladującą marmur. Widownia została zaprojektowana dla 200 widzów". Ciekawe informacje. Nigdy nie pomyślałabym, że pod tymi marmurowymi ścianami znajduje się drewno.
I liked the ceiling with numerous gilding and sculptures. You can see that they are intricately made, creating a beautiful whole. A painting with heavenly motifs, angels, boys and a horse carriage floating in the clouds looks fascinating.
Bardzo sposobał mi się sufit z licznymi złoceniami i rzeźbami. Widać, że wykonanymi misternie, tworząc piękną całość. Ujmująco wygląda malowidło z motywami niebiańskimi, aniołami, chłopcami i konnym powozem unoszącym się w chmurach.
Paintings of people in ancient costumes placed high on the wall are also cool. Former audience. I read on the plaque that when a performance was staged here in the 18th century, a lot of people came to see it, about 1,000 carriages. What a crowd!
Fajne są też umieszczone wysoko na ścianie malunki osób, w starodawnych strojach. Dawnej publiki. Przeczytałam na tabliczce, że kiedy w XVIII wieku roku wystawiono tu speklakl, przyjechało na niego mnóstwo osób, ok.1000 powozów. Ale tłum 😉
Take a look at these candlesticks. They are held in the hands of carved statues. When they illuminate their heads white, the statues look a bit like ghosts 😉
Spójrzcie na te świeczniki. Trzymane są w dłoniach wyrzeźbionych posągów. Gdy oświetlają im głowy na biało, posągi wyglądają trochę jak duchy 😉
Maybe someday I will come here to watch a performance or a symphonic concert. It's nice that I found out about this theater.
Może kiedyś przyjdę tu obejrzeć jakiś spektakl albo koncert symfoniczny. Fajnie, że odkryłam ten teatr.
