Kawcczyńska Basilica is located a bit from the center, in the left-bank district of Warsaw, which is called Praga North, on the so-called Szmulki. Although it is easy to get there, I got on tram number 7 in the center and a dozen or so minutes later I got off at the visa a vie stop of the basilica. Apparently, Pope Pius XI once said that it is the most beautiful church in Poland and indeed this temple looks wonderful.
Bazylika Kawęczyńska znajduje się kawałek od centrum, w lewobrzeżnej dzielnicy Warszawy, która nazywa się Praga Północ, na tzw. Szmulkach. Aczkolwiek łatwo tam dojechać, ja wsiadłam do tramwaju numer 7 w centrum i kilkanaście minut później wysiadłam na przystanku visa a vie bazyliki. Podobno papież Pius XI powiedział kiedyś, że to najpiękniejszy kościół w Polsce i rzeczywiście świątynia ta wygląda cudownie.
When I arrived over the basilica, there were dark clouds that heralded storms, and I also received an alert on my phone that today I can expect serious problems caused by thunderstorms. However, I decided that I was walking around this district a bit and if it suddenly started to rain, I would either hide somewhere or take the tram and return home.
Gdy przyjechałam nad bazyliką kłębiły się ciemne chmury zwiastujące burze, dostałam też alert na telefonie, że dzisiaj mogę się spodziewać poważnych problemów spowodowanych przez burze z piorunami. Jednak postanowiłam, że trochę pochodzę po tej dzielnicy i gdyby nagle zaczęło padać, to albo się gdzieś schronię, albo wsiądę do tramwaju i wrócę do domu.
A lady selling strawberries was sitting in front of the basilica, every now and then someone passed by. It looked optimistic. Indeed, it turned out that despite the dreadful clouds, it didn't even rain. The storm passed by :)
Przed bazyliką siedziała pani sprzedająca truskawki, co chwila ktoś przechodził. Wyglądało to optymistycznie. I rzeczywiście, okazało się, że mimo strasznych chmur, nawet nie padało. Burza przeszła bokiem :)
*Ale niewiedząc jeszcze jak rozwinie się sytuacja pogodowa poszłam zwiedzać ten niesamowity kościół. Już z zewnątrz prezentował się ciekawie, ale największy eekt WOW poczułam, gdy weszłam do środka (zresztą sami zobaczycie, jak niesamowicie wygląda wnętrze bazyliki, gdy obejrzycie kolejne zdjęcia z posta).
The building was to be modeled on the Roman basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. The similarity, however, is very small and concerns the interior of the building referring to typical early Christian basilicas. The temple is an oriented basilica 65 meters long, 30 meters wide, and 22 meters high. The architect gave it the form of historicizing modernism and a classicist facade.

Gmach miał być wzorowany na rzymskiej bazylice św. Pawła za Murami. Podobieństwo jest jednak bardzo małe i dotyczy partii wnętrza budynku nawiązującego do typowych bazylik wczesnochrześcijańskich. Świątynia jest orientowaną bazyliką o długości 65 metrów, szerokości 30 i wysokości 22 metrów. Architekt nadał mu formy historyzującego modernizmu i klasycystyczną fasadę.

In front of the temple, there are two sculptures depicting St. Paul and St. Peter.
Przed świątynią znajdują się dwie rzeźby, przedstawiające św. Pawła i św. Piotra.
And we're in there when I walked in, there was some service going on. The church looked like it had been newly renovated.
24 columns made of Italian granite, arranged in two rows and separating the nave from the aisles, were originally made for the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. However, they turned out to be too short and were purchased by the founder for the needs of the temple under construction.

I jesteśmy w środku, gdy weszłam odbywało się jakieś nabożeństwo. Kościół wyglądał jakby był świeżo wyremontowany.
24 kolumny wykonane z granitu włoskiego, ustawione w dwóch rzędach i oddzielające nawę główną od naw bocznych, zostały pierwotnie wykonane dla bazyliki św. Pawła za Murami. Okazały się jednak za krótkie i zostały zakupione przez fundatorkę na potrzeby budowanej świątyni.

There are numerous paintings on the coffered ceiling, and colorful stained-glass windows slightly lower on the windows.
Na kasetonowym suficie znajdują się liczne malowidła, a nieco niżej na oknach kolorowe witraże.
The main altar also looks impressive. On the side, I noticed a large screen with the lyrics of religious songs sung during the mass. One of the priests celebrating the mass was wearing a face mask.
Ołtarz główny również prezentuje się imponująco. Z boku zauważyłam duży ekran z tekstami piosenek religijnych śpiewanych podczas mszy. Jeden z księży odprawiających mszę miał na twarzy maseczkę.
