A few days ago, on my way to the Fryderyk Chopin Museum, I discovered an interesting place in the Warsaw district of Powiśle - the Golden Duck Corner. There is a golden duck sculpture with a crown on its head. Water gushes out of the sculpture in different directions. It looks very effective. There is a legend about the golden duck associated with this sculpture.
Kilka dni temu, w drodze do Muzeum Fryderyka Chopina odkryłam ciekawe miejsce w warszawskiej dzielnicy Powiśle - Zakątek Złotej Kaczki. Znajduje się tam rzeźba złotej kaczki, która ma na głowie koronę. Z rzeźby na różne strony tryska woda. Wygląda to bardzo efektownie. Z tą rzeźbą wiąże się legenda o złotej kaczce.
According to legend, a long time ago, a golden duck lived in the Ostrogowski Castle. People believed that whoever found her would become rich. One day, a poor shoemaker, Lutek, managed to find a duck on Midsummer. He managed to find a golden duck who gave him a purse of ducats and promised to become rich if he spent the money in one day and, very importantly, he would not share it with anyone. At the beginning it was very easy for Lutek - he bought himself new clothes, ate a good meal, traveled by carriage to Wilanów, went to the theater, but in the evening he still had a lot of money left. Suddenly he saw a poor, crippled man who asked him for some money. Lutek gave him some ducats. Then all his money and new clothes were gone. He broke the deal and everything was gone. The beggar said that what counts is a good heart and own work, not ducats. Soon the shoemaker started to prosper, and thanks to his own actions he had a very successful, happy life.

Według legendy dawno temu, w Zamku Ostrogowskich mieszkała złota kaczka. Ludzie wierzyli, że ten kto ją odnajdzie stanie się bogaty. Pewnego dnia udało się to biednemu szewcowi Lutkowi, który postanowił poszukać kaczki w noc świętojańską. Udało mu się znaleźć złotą kaczkę, która dała mu sakiewkę dukatów i obiecała, że stanie się bogaty, jeśli wyda te pieniądze w jeden dzień i co bardzo ważne, z nikim się nimi nie podzieli. Na początku Lutkowi było bardzo latwo - kupił sobie nowe ubrania, zjadł dobry posiłek, pojechał dorożką do Wilanowa, poszedł do teatru jednak wieczorem zostało mu jeszcze sporo pieniędzy. Nagle zobaczył biednego mężczyznę, kalekę, który poprosił go o trochę pieniędzy. Lutek dał mu trochę dukatów. Wtedy zniknęły wszystkie jego pieniądze oraz nowe ubrania. Nie dotrzymał umowy i wszystko zniknęło. Żebrak powiedział, że liczy się dobre serce i własna praca, a nie dukaty. Wkrótce szewcowi zaczęło się powodzić i dzięki własnym działaniom miał bardzo udane, szczęśliwe życie.

There are several benches in the Golden Duck Corner. You can sit there and spend time by the fountain.
W Zakątek Złotej Kaczki postawiono kilka ławek. Można tam usiąść i spędzić czas przy fontannie.
That day I was walking around Powiśle. It is a district of Warsaw, located close to the city center and next to the Vistula River. I was near the Poniatowski Bridge. Whenever I see it, I'm impressed by its various elements - e.g. characteristic turrets or windows.
Tego dnia spacerowałam sobie po Powiślu. To dzielnica Warszawy, która jest położona blisko centrum a także obok Wisły. Byłam w okolicy Mostu Poniatowskiego. Zawsze gdy go widzę jestem pod wrażeniem różnych jego elementów - np. charakterystycznych wieżyczek, czy okien.
I also walked by the Warszawa Powiśle railway station. It is accessed by stairs and there is a cool bar at the entrance to the station with a large, flat, round roof. It looks a bit like a UFO ship ;)
Przechodziłam też obok stacji PKP Warszawa Powiśle. Wchodzi się na nią po schodach, a przy wejściu na dworzec znajduje się fajny bar z dużym, płaskim, okrągłym dachem. Wygląda trochę jak statek ufo ;)
Then I walked under the next bridge and headed towards Tamka Street. In front of the bridge, across the street, there is the Korean Cultural Center. A very interesting place. I used to go to Korean and Taekwandoo lessons there. Before the pandemic, the center also organized an amazing Korean festival every year where you could listen to musicians playing Korean songs on traditional instruments, as well as modern bands with kpop music, there were also a lot of competitions, demonstrations of Korean cooking and various stands where you could get to know Korean better culture.
Następnie przeszłam się pod kolejnym mostem i zmierzałam w stronę ulicy Tamka. Przed mostem, po drugiej stronie ulicy znajduje się Centrum Kultury Koreańskiej. Bardzo fajne miejsce. Chodziłam tam kiedyś na lekcje języka koreańskiego i na zajęcia taekwandoo. Centrum przed pandemią organizowało też co roku niesamowity festiwal Koreański na którym można było posłuchać muzyków grających koreańskie utwory na tradycyjnych instrumentach, a także nowoczesne zespoły z muzyką kpop, był tez dużo konkursów, pokazy gotowania potraw koreańskich i różne stoiska na których można było lepiej poznać koreańską kulturę.
When I was walking around Powiśle, I felt that autumn was approaching. There were many leaves on the sidewalk that had fallen from the trees, and the air grew noticeably colder.
Gdy spacerowałam po Powiślu czułam, że zbliża się jesień. Na chodniku było sporo liści, które spadły z drzew, a powietrze zrobiło się wyraźnie zimniejsze.
I liked this duck - a rocking chair for children in a housing estate in that area.
Spodobała mi się ta kaczka - bujanka dla adzieci na osiedlu mieszkalnym w tamtej okolicy.
And this is the famous Tamka Street. There are many tenement houses and fashionable restaurants here. The street rises upwards. Following it, I came to the Fryderyk Chopin Museum.
A to słynna ulica Tamka. Znajduje się tu sporo kamienic oraz modnych restauracji. Ulica wznosi się do góry. Idąc nią, doszłam do Muzeum Fryderyka Chopina.
