Kiskatinaw Bridge

A construction and engineering feat.
Built in 1942-43 as part of the Alaska Highway, it remained in use till
1978 when a new bridge was constructed with a much higher load capacity.
Made entirely of wood, shipped from the coast of B.C. over 500,000 board feet.....

Amount of curve is evident

for this 534' or 162.763 meters long bridge.
The concrete footings were poured during a cold snap and all had to be enclosed and heated till the concrete cured.
An additional challenge in it's construction is the curve, as it was the first curved bridge built in Canada.
Located about 17.3 km North of Dawson Creek, B.C. Canada the signs are well marked and it is just a short drive off the new Alaska Highway.
There are excellent camping spots near the bridge and a terrific stop for just seeing an....

The river is the Kiskatinaw which is a Cree word for river with steep banks.

currently closed the bridge to traffic, but you can still walk across and see the gorgeous view.
