If you're in Plovdiv and you haven't been to Kapan, it's as if you haven't been to Plovdiv. This is what I found out on my last visit to this historic city.
Капана е квартал на Пловдив с много добро географско положение. Той е разположен точно в центъра на града и оттам всяка една забележителност се намира много наблизо – например римския стадион, паметника на Альоша, който е разположен на едно от тепетата.
By the way, Plovdiv is better known as "the city of hills" and this is not by chance. After all, on the territory of Plovdiv there are "only" 7 of these natural landmarks, which today are a major attraction for tourists. If you decide to climb any of them you should keep in mind that they are only accessible on foot. It is strictly forbidden to drive a car on the hills and the local authorities have issued heavy fines for violators on more than one occasion.

Our starting point was the parking lot next to the Trimontium Hotel, which is the beginning of the longest pedestrian street in the Balkans. In fact, for the modest sum of 2 leva per hour, this seems to me the most convenient place to park in the centre of Plovdiv. On the way to the Kapana district we passed countless picturesque shops and restaurants. Shortly after the Trimontsium Hotel is one of the places you can see on social media - the statue of Milho and the inscription Plovdiv.
On our way to Kapana district we saw the fountain, which the locals call "the button". At night it glows in different colors and is very beautiful.
Maybe 1 kilometer is the distance from Hotel Trimontsium to the beginning of Kapana district. Just before it is the Jumaya Mosque and the excavations of the old town. The mosque is quite big and in front of the mosque is probably the most famous cafe in Plovdiv. It is called "Tolerance Cafe" or "Jumaya Turkish Pastry Shop" and offers traditional Turkish coffee and amazing sweets. It wasn't the best time to sit down and try the coffee and sweets, so we left our visit for another time.
Kapana is made up of countless small and very picturesque streets. Each of them has a certain charm. To be honest, the name of the district comes from the distant 15th century, when it was a centre of craftsmen. Since then and until today, this neighborhood attracts its tourists with its amazing style. There are art restaurants on every street. And the food they offer is simply unique.
Despite the restrictions imposed against the distribution of Covid, every single establishment was full of people. In the summer season it is very difficult to find a seat if you have not made a reservation in advance. Well, it turned out that not only in the summer period, but also in the autumn period is a cause perdue. But we pulled out pure luck and found a seat.
Some of the streets are decorated with lamps that make the pictures look amazing. The walls of most buildings are decorated with graffiti and add to the artsy atmosphere that reigns in this picturesque neighbourhood.
Everything from the buildings, restaurants and alleyways to the incredible food brings you into an adventure and fun.
We were very pleased with this walk and have decided that the next time we visit Kapana we will make a reservation for one of the most famous restaurants there - Corner.
