Long time no see, best travel community on Hive, right?
You know I am more active during summer months and with my young family I can’t go far from home right now, so I have to focus to my homeland. Thanks God I am blessed and living in a country full of beauties. I am really enjoying when I am travelling around Slovenia and honestly don’t even miss travelling abroad. Well, I won’t say no to a short visit of US or maybe a week of safari :)
But as I said, I am satisfied where I am and happy that I was able to discover another place which I didn’t visit before. That place is called Jezersko. We were there in whole package, meaning my wife and two kids were with me and we went next day after my celebration of birthday - Happy birthday to me, I suppose :) Well that was a few weeks ago, so I am already looking forward to my next birthday :) I am in good mood today and inspired to share some good stuff with you today. I missed travel and writing travel posts! It has been half a year since my last one or even more. But I will add few more during this summer for sure. As already mentioned, we don’t intend to travel anywhere internationally (Croatia doesn’t count), but we will do a couple of weekend getaways to some of the places in Slovenia where I haven’t been yet, or I was a little boy when visited the last time. I have to put another praise to our government. Do you still remember how every adult citizen got 200 EUR last year to spend for accommodation in Slovenia? On their bill, I visited 4 places for couple of nights last year and this year they opened theirs (ours) pockets as well. Not that big this time around, but 100 EUR per adult is also nice plus bonus for two kids in amount of additional 100 EUR will cover at least one or two weekend getaways! Can’t wait! I already have reservation at Prekmurje in the middle of August and can’t wait to visit and share my experience with you later hare on Hive.
Let me return to past trip to Jezersko of which I will be talking about today. That one was also “free” as my father in law gave me his “travel voucher” as a birthday present. Perfect gift for me…
I planned a trip to Jezersko for quite a while and now was the perfect opportunity! Weather forecast was great as there was 35+ degrees Celsius in city, but could easily say it was confortable 10 degrees less in the mountain area of Jezersko. This are where we stayed is at an altitude of 920 meters above sea level. Area is just not the right expression for such a lovely place where we stayed at. Place is called Šenkova Domačija in Slovene and I am not sure they even have a translation. It is one of the landmarks there and a place to go and see if you are by any chance not sleeping there. But believe me, if you will not sleep there, you will regret that. Firstly, because they serve dinner only for their guests. And this dinner is awesome. We had two of them and I could have them day after day…
We also reserved superior room, which was recently renovated and was super nice. Confortable bed, amenities of top level with only local supplier. We had an ice cream once and it was the best one I ever ate at least from fruit flavor. Such a great taste, made by small company in vicinity using local ingredients. I would return there just to have another cup of that raspberry ice cream. I choose hazelnut flavor as I always do and my wife took raspberry and when I tried it, we switched immediately. I am grateful to have such an awesome wife :)
Probably you already figured it out that we stayed at tourist farm. Like we try to always do on that kind of vacations. That is the most genuine feeling I can make for kids to enjoy in connection with nature. There is a lot of greenery to play around, owner even took him around on a tractor a bit :)
Speaking of owner it is the major’s wife, and that major was serving us at dinner. Very cool guy!
Last thing to mention about this farm are favorite thing of my kid(s). Anja is still too young to know what is going on around, but I am sure she will enjoy in couple years when we will come back, but Luka had this opportunity now when we visited. Hens are probably still traumatized about how he was chasing them. And pigs have to be on a diet all summer long to lose weight due to him taking care for their menu for two days. They are taking care for animals very well and these animals are indigenous species. Everything cooked comes from their garden as well. Well luckily not only garden, but also barn :)
And what we saw there? A lot!
Photos below will describe it the best, but there is certainly a lot to do and see. We were there for two days only and had two kids with their own tempo so couldn’t do it all, but as I often say that is just another reason to come back! There are two waterfalls we didn’t see and you know I am crazy about them, so I will definitely be back. We didn’t do any specific tour around. We went searching for Jezerski Vrh with our car and that became an unforgettable experience. We drove there, could easily say offroad with normal car, not and SUV or similar. Luckily we turn around quick enough and still catch a few nice viewpoints! There is such a nice thematic walkway into the valley but we did only small loop. Whole loop is 8 kilometers and has quite a bit of elevation gain. You can also do it with bike, but we didn’t have ours with us. You have many routes for e-bikes around there as well. For the real hikers there are several mountains to conquer. Some of the biggest in Slovenia with over 2.500 meters altitude. We are not there yet, and probably never will be :)
Place to relax is Planšarsko jezero – lake. Awesome colors there. A lot of greenery again. If you have a drone you will be able to capture a really nice photo as it is in a shape of heart. I didn’t manage to catch that with my phone. I have to mention at this point that I didn’t focus on photography at this trip and just did few quick clicks with kids running around. I will have some fresh higher quality photos ready soon from my trip to Kranjska Gora and vicinity from few weeks ago as well. So what else to say? If I am asking myself this question, I probably said enough already and it is time for conclusion…
Jezersko is a great place to visit and make sure to stay at Šenkova Domačija when you will visit. Perfect place to relax, but what to do if you always rush somewhere and can spend only night or two at the max. Hopefully time to relax will come when we will get a bit older :)
I am happy to share my next part of my Tour De Slovenia after such a long period. I can promise you, it won’t take that long for my next part!
Ohhhh and by the way… Are you watching Tour de France? Well if you are, you are well aware of Slovenia :)
