Ryedale Vineyards - North Yorkshire

Hey Guys

A couple of weeks ago I was on holiday in North Yorkshire in England and decided to do a wine tasting at a local vineyard.

Founded in 2006 the Vineyard is on a Farm on the North Yorkshire moors and is run by a father and son team with 1 other worker helping out. The farmhouse is also a bed and breakfast.

The vineyard also has a bar...

The vineyard produces around 6000 bottles of wine each year as well as a plum wine and 2 types of apple cider.

For lichen to grow on trees like this the air in the surrounding area needs to be very fresh. A good sign that the grapes ,apples and plums grown here are very high quality.

The tour of the vineyard cost £15.This included a cheese sampler and some chorizo as well as a selection of red, white, sparkling and rosie wines. A plum fruit wine and 2 different flavours of apple cider.

The owner told us how he and his son got into winemaking. They used to be landscape gardeners who worked on the land here and when the owner decided to move to the Isle of Mann these guys took over. The owner is a charming and funny Yorkshire man who told us stories as we sampled the various wines.

I bought a bottle of the Plum wine for £10 .It is a nice dessert wine which would go well with a Christmas dinner.

In the video above the owner of the vineyard explains that he got the recipe wrong and used 4x to much sugar which resulted in a wine that was almost 18% alcohol volume.

Its best to mix this fruit wine with lemonade or ginger ale to create a lovely refreshing summer drink.

My parents picked up a bottle of the Rosie and Strickland Red which are both very high quality wines.

Both the red and the rosie went very well with Mediterranean vegetable, ham and pineapple pizza and a red onion focaccia bread. :)
