Poem Entry #4 - Angina Pectoris

Angina Pectoris
by Missing Nins

How painful it is,

To be backstabbed by your closest companion;
To be betrayed by your most trusted friend;
To be deceived by your dearest loved ones;
And to be destroyed completely by your nemesis.

My chest throbbed like hell,
I thought it was angina pectoris.

Footnote: Angina pectoris is a chest pain that usually occurs in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). It occurs when the myocardium (heart muscle) doesn't receive enough supply of oxygen due to stenosing (narrowing) of the coronary artery, which is responsible in supplying oxygenated blood to the heart.

Common types of angina include stable and unstable angina. Stable angina occurs when there is an increased demand of oxygen in the heart due to exercise or stress.

Stable angina can be relieved with medications and treated with invasive procedures, such as percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) and stenting.

On the other hand, unstable angina can occur even at rest. Unstable angina is also more painful and lasts longer than stable angina.

Anginas are often described as squeezing, burning, or tightening of the chest. Some patients complained it as if some weights are being placed on their chest. If left untreated, CAD will get worse and may lead to myocardial infarction (MI), also known as heart attack.
