Fell Dragon 2 Introduction 2: Banishment

Fell Dragon
Here's the next installment of getting to know the extra cultures and their practices in the Fell Dragon World.

Karesh has threatened Saita with banishment. For humans this practice means you leave the human territories and may not return until forgiven by the crown. However, the Saith view this punishment in a different light.

Banishment is a punishment reserved for those who have committed a crime to heinous that even death can't redeem them. It is rare that this punishment is handed down to criminals, and when it is, they would rather take death.

When banished, the guilty are loaded onto a ship with locked controls, with enough provisions to last them roughly a year. Unable to manipulate the trajectory of the ship's course, the guilty are forced to travel until they are gifted control once more. Once the ship is manually in their control once more, the original flight pattern is deleted, and they cannot find their way back. They are truly on their own, and survival is difficult.

Back home on the planet, the name of the guilty is struck off everything. Birth certificates, accomplishments, property, everything they once had, is taken from them. They become a no name, and it's highly encouraged by the race to forget them.

It's unheard of that the banished ever make it back to the homeworld of the Saith. However, in Seeking Revenge, Baks Royal Guard (not related to the family Royal Guard) returns and seeks revenge for what he believed was unfair punishment. Spoiler, it wasn't. It look him 36 years to return to his planet, but he did.

And there you have it. The punishment of banishment is something all Saith are terrified of, which is why Barik doesn't understand that Saita isn't concerned over her father's threat.
