Mursi Maiden (Charcoal And Acylic Painting)

Hello Friends. I'm still working on the my "Disappearing Tribes" project and so decided to make my second painting of a tribe well known for their body modifications, the Mursi Tribe of South Ethiopia. I created this piece today as my second work under the project and it depicts a Mursi Maiden wearing a lip disc in her elongated lips.

This is one of the world's most famous cultural identity which is carried out mostly by the Maidens of the Mursi Tribe. It is regarded as an act of beautification and cultural identity by the Mursi Tribe. During ceremonies, unmarried women wear their discs to different themselves from married women.

This is one of the world's fastest disappearing acts as the Mursi people are becoming very distant and the act itself isn't very common anymore in the tribe. I used both charcoal and acrylic paint for the original painting but played around to get the digital version of the painting. I hope you love it.
