Hivechess Tournament Round 5: A Close Match and Halftime Standing

Dear Chessfriends,

in the 5th round of the Hivechess tournament we were 14 players - record in this season! We had again a newcomer: @manncpt (Toful) from the Austrian Hive Community and Co-founder of @globalschool and @cryptobrunch had his very first blitz tournament on Lichess today!

This round it was again in Swiss tournament mode, so identical parings were not allowed. It was a very close fight between @jaki01 and myself. I had a really good run (with quite some luck) and was able to win all matches except a draw against @jaki01. I was up a pawn, but played then very cautiously (but at least fast) so that I could keep the 1/2 point. Since @jaki01 won also all his other games, at the end the better tie break decided for him (he also had played on average against stronger players).
The third place was grabbed by @rafaelaquino (ajedrezclub2t) who had today his best result in Hivechess so far! Fourth was @aakrist (TheOnlyNischal) who also had a solid performance in his only second appearance (way above his rating), closely followed by @pereu4ivatel (drakOnb) who due to the lower tie break ended up as fifth. The remaining tournament points went to @evgsk (evgchess) (6th), @gingerbyna (Jeanjarrgh) (7th) and @schamangerbert (HerbyW) (8th). All 3 were divided by the tie break only. A close round in every aspect!

No changes at the first place (this would have been even not possible), but due to my 2nd place today and the absence of @jrevilla (josephchess90) again, I could propel myself from the 4th to the 2nd rank. @pereu4ivatel (drakOnb) stayed on the third place, but @jrevilla (josephchess90) lost 2 places and is now 4th.
Although missing out today, both @yazp (zulukill) and @cattoOOO could defend their fifth and sixth spot.
@rafaelaquino (ajedrezclub2t) due to his good performance could gain 2 places and is now 8th. And also @aakrist (TheOnlyNischal) and @schamangerbert (HerbyW) could improve themselves in the rankings today.

Payouts:

The winner of each round gets 8 points, the second 7,... and the 8th 1 point.
Season 2 goes over 11 rounds and all points are summed up. All Hivechess-related post rewards are pooled and 90% go to the price pool. The winner will get 30% of that price pool, the second 20%, the third 10%, the rest is divided equally among the other players active on Hive or Steem, according to the no. of rounds they have played. So everyone has a chance to get something and the more you play the more you win! Prices are payed out in Hive Tokens.

The remaining rules you can look up in the announcement post.

See you hopefully next Friday and as always - keep practicing!
