Desde hace algunas semanas mis padres han estado haciendo algunas remodelaciones en el salón familiar de mi casa: han pintado las paredes, han movidos algunos muebles de aquí para allá, han agregado algunas nuevas decoraciones… cosas así por el estilo, la casa ha tenido un nuevo aire desde entonces, renovando así las energías del espacio, lo cual es muy bueno.
Me sorprendió un poco cuando mi papá me pidió que pensara en ideas para hacer un mural en una de las paredes de la sala. Mi experiencia haciendo murales es poca, he realizado unas pinturas en la pared de mi cuarto (y que por cierto, planeo modificarlas todas XD), y he colaborado un poco con algunos murales en mi escuela, pero no he hecho nada demasiado extraordinario, así que es algo intimidante tener que hacer uno yo sola.
Aun así, asumí el reto de hacerlo ¿qué experiencia ganaría si me negaba? Ninguna. Las dimensiones para el mural que mi papá me trazó en la pared son de 90cmx1m, una vez delimitadas las líneas del cuadro hice líneas verticales y horizontales dentro del mismo creando así una cuadricula que me facilite seguir el boceto que realicé en una hoja y que el dibujo me quedase lo más fiel posible a la imagen de referencia.
Tras ver con mi papá algunas ideas en Pinterest, quedó fascinado con un retrato de una mujer cuya parte superior del rostro se fundía con el fondo y en lugar de ojos, unas embarcaciones ocupaban el lugar. Me pareció una buena composición, sin embargo, sentía que le faltaba algo más, que podría ser mejor. Entré en una pequeña disputa con mi papá, quien no quiso hacerle ningún tipo de modificación al diseño, así que al final no me quedó otro remedio que hacerle caso al “cliente”.

Poco a poco fui dibujando el rostro de la figura femenina en la pared. Los labios y la nariz no fueron demasiado difíciles de dibujar, solo el borde de la quijada fue lo que me representó un poco de dificultad, pues, no lograba hacer que esta se pareciera al de la imagen de referencia lo que me llevó a borrar y dibujar varias veces.
Cuando iba casi finalizando el boceto, ocurrió un cambio de planes: a mis padres (y admito que a mí también) no les convencía el hecho de colocar los barcos en el espacio donde se supone que van los ojos. Siempre he creído que no todas las fotografías se ven bien en dibujos o pinturas, y quizá este es uno de esos casos, así que para no perder tiempo, tomé la iniciativa de ofrecer otras ideas para reemplazar la de los barcos. Algunas de esas ideas incluían velas, ramas de árboles o tentáculos… pero a mis queridos clientes no les agradaba del todo las propuestas, así que me llené internamente de paciencia y dejé que ellos ofrecieran sus propuestas.
Finalmente, acordamos que dibujaría una máscara o antifaz que cubriera parte del rostro de la figura; a mí no me pareció tan mala la idea, la mujer retratada tendría entonces un aura misteriosa, con un aspecto sofisticado y moderno. Me puse manos a la obra, y así fue como resultó el boceto finalmente:
Este mural será monocromático, usaré solo negro, blanco y una gran variedad de tonos gris para hacer los matices y las sombras. En un próximo post les mostraré los avances y también el resultado final.

Since a few weeks ago my parents have been doing some remodeling in the family room of my house: they have painted the walls, moved some furniture here and there, added some new decorations... things like that, the house has had a new air since then, renewing the energies of the space, which is very good.
I was a bit surprised when my dad asked me to come up with ideas for a mural on one of the living room walls. My experience doing murals is little, I've done some paintings on the wall of my room (and by the way, I plan to modify them all XD), and I've collaborated a little with some murals in my school, but I haven't done anything too extraordinary, so it's a little intimidating to have to do one by myself.
Still, I took on the challenge to do it, what experience would I gain if I refused? None. The dimensions for the mural that my dad drew for me on the wall are 90cmx1m, once the lines of the painting were delimited I made vertical and horizontal lines inside it creating a grid to make it easier for me to follow the sketch I made on a sheet of paper and that the drawing would be as faithful as possible to the reference image.
After looking at some ideas on Pinterest with my dad, he was fascinated with a portrait of a woman whose upper face blended into the background and instead of eyes, boats took the place. I thought it was a good composition, however, I felt it was missing something else, that it could be better. I got into a small dispute with my dad, who didn't want to make any kind of modification to the design, so in the end I had no choice but to listen to the "client".

I gradually drew the face of the female figure on the wall. The lips and nose were not too difficult to draw, only the edge of the jaw was what represented me a little difficulty, because, I could not make it look like the reference image which led me to erase and draw several times.
When I was almost finishing the sketch, a change of plans occurred: my parents (and I admit, me too) were not convinced by the fact of placing the ships in the space where the eyes are supposed to go. I've always believed that not all photographs look good in drawings or paintings, and maybe this is one of those cases, so in order not to waste time, I took the initiative to offer other ideas to replace the one with the ships. Some of those ideas included sails, tree branches or tentacles... but my dear clients didn't like the proposals at all, so I filled myself internally with patience and let them offer their proposals.
Finally, we agreed that I would draw a mask or mask that would cover part of the figure's face; the idea didn't seem so bad to me, the portrayed woman would then have a mysterious aura, with a sophisticated and modern look. I got down to work, and that's how the sketch finally turned out:
This mural will be monochromatic, I will use only black, white and a variety of gray tones to make the shades and shadows. In a next post I will show you the progress and also the final result.
