After my previous painting of Marthin Luther, which was more like a warm-up to this, I got a contract to make a big painting - a life size work of about 5 fits.
The work lasted for about 3 months which saw many other drawings completed before it. I did had fun doing it and also didplayed it in my locality to create awareness.
My greatest challenge was getting the resemblance of the face. I overlayed it two times before the final layer. However, my previous painting gave me more flexibility to handle this big piece.
I learnt a whole lot while making this piece. I realized there's no huge difference between bigger paintings and smaller ones except the time constraint and flexibility.
I am still going to work more on improving my painting skill. Yes, because do more of pen drawings and I rarely do paintings.
The painting was done with oil color on canvas placed on a stretcher.
I first made an outline sketch of my model after scaling it with grid lines to get an accurate shape.
Then, I paited on the face. This is the focal point cause when you get it right, one who knows the model will recognize him immediately one sees the face.
Here is a close shot of the face. Took me about 3 days to get that face right cause I never wanted to rush it. The face has 3 layers.
Thereafter, I moved to the shirt. You can see me working on it. That stage is the first coating. I worked on the shirt and his shoes and later dropped my first layer of paints on his hands.
After that, I proceeded to the background. I wanted a background that will match with his dress so I chose blue with a few touches of white.
That is the first coating of the background. This took a whole lot of paints but I wasn't bothered cause my client paid for it and I knew what I wanted to achieve. You can see the full work below.
I started adding white paint on his cloth. But before then, I have already completed the hand. You can see me with the brush doing the needful.
Here is how it looks after that. I have also started adding details. The second coating of the background has also been done.
This is how the final piece looks. I did the final touches of the background and more details were added on the cloth.
That's all for now.
I hope you did enjoy the processes...
Thank you for dropping by.
