June 3 - Vyatka

Hello friends.

I'm not a wizard or a magician, I'm just learning to be one.

The city where I live has changed its name 3 times during its existence.
It originally appeared in ancient writings under the name Vyatka. Archaeologists call the date 1374. Soon it will be 650 years since the first known mention of this city.
Then the name Khlynov appeared. But during the reign of the Empress Catherine II, the city was again called Vyatka.
The river on which the city stands is also called Vyatka. This is the old Udmurt name of the river.
In 1936, the city was renamed Kirov, in honor of the Soviet politician Sergei Kostrikov, who had the nickname Kirov.

There is such a long tradition in our city - to go to the Procession on the Velikaya River.
There is a belief that a local peasant at the beginning of the 15th century, according to other sources at the end of the 14th century, found an icon of St. Nicholas on the banks of the Velikaya River. The icon was delivered to Vyatka, but something went wrong and the Orthodox Christians realized that it was necessary to carry the icon to the place where it was found. And they started wearing it there every year. And they made a vow that they would do this every year. But once the icon was not demolished on the Velikaya River and bad times began on Vyatka. People began to look for the cause of their troubles and realized that they had broken a holy vow. When the polomniki made a religious procession and delivered the icon to the place of its discovery, things got better in Vyatka.

Over the years, the route of the procession has changed. People went there and on the Vyatka River in boats and ships, then went up the Velikaya River, people went on foot and went on horseback. But now there is a constant route that you need to go only with your feet.
The route starts from the central Vyatka Cathedral - the Trifonovo Monastery. And now they are carrying a copy of the icon, which was lost in the Soviet era, when the Cathedral - the place where the icon was stored-was destroyed.

June 3 is the date of the beginning of the Procession. People start their trek from the Trifonov Monastery. On this day, I decided to take a walk before the start of the working day through the streets of the city. And I saw people walking to the monastery with backpacks, with all the attributes of a tourist. I remembered about the peculiarities of this day and decided to go to the monastery.

I decided to go from the embankment side. There is a dirt road here. And it is quite intensively driven by cars.
Closer to the monastery, there are beautiful lanterns, stylized as old times.
Somehow I took a very crooked picture of them.

I have been near this monastery before, but from the main street. I haven't been to this "back door" even once.
I wonder why this wooden extension was made on the stone monastery?

It turns out that people spent the night in tents at the old sports stadium, which is located next to the monastery. In the 70s of last year, a great tragedy occurred at this stadium with many deaths and since then it has ceased to function at full capacity.

Someone even decided to take a little privacy. A very strange place the man chose for his tent.

And people little by little pull up to the monastery and enter its territory. But I'm not going there. I don't want to go into the crowd.

There are many police officers at the entrance to the monastery. They're all wearing masks. But the "tourists" are all without masks. According to the official authorities, 17 thousand people went to the Procession this year. and they were all unmasked!
Today is June 23. 20 days have passed. In Russia, the number of patients with coronovirus has increased very sharply. I wouldn't be surprised if this Religious Procession is partly to blame. It attracts people from all over the country and even from abroad.

Luxury, money, success always go next to the opposite.
But this is me so figuratively.
A few more photos that I took standing in front of the monastery.

Icon above the entrance to the monastery. I'm not going there. It's time for me to go home and get ready for work.
I hope, friends, that you were at least a little interested in what I wrote.

It was a short walk through a small neighborhood of Kirov

@alechi

I give 5% of the reward to archon, and he thanks me for it. Do you do it?

I wish everyone happiness for life and good luck for every day.
