Introduction and Thematic

Hawthorns and lilies of the valley (scientific name being Convallaria majalis) are flowers of May by tradition, and yet this is the month of the flowers but all of them: snowdrops, violets, daffodils, daisies, roses, honeysuckles, gladioli, chrysanthemums, orchids, sunflowers and hibiscuses, among others.

May evoke flowers and flowers are a language in their own right and sake. They evoke beauty, love, life and death, fertility, longing, bliss but also tears: flowers are poetry. And this is why The Talent Club invites you to bring your poems about flowers.

Pick a flower and your own motivations, tell us why you have chosen this flower and show it to us through a picture, a drawing or painting or a video. You may want to take a selfie with the flower of your poem or perhaps you want to accompany your poem with a video where you or somebody else recites it. Take your pick or be creative to bring another option to the table and opt to share your part of the 250 HIVE pot.

Format

The core of the works will be a poem:

  • Use whatever form of poetry you like: free verse, blank verse, a sonnet, a limerick, etc..
  • Add some flower photography of your own.
  • You can add a video of your own too if you want.
  • Or add some music.
  • Or even draw your own flowers to your poem.

You also have the freedom to surprise us by combining several of these formats or using only one of them at your choice.

There will be no minimum or maximum extension limit.

There will be 6 main prizes and 4 second prizes:

  • 1st place - 80 HIVE
  • 2nd place - 50 HIVE

The jury will give preference to the following aspects, not necessarily in that order:

  • Originality of the work.
  • Message depth.
  • Literary quality.

The main prizes can be declared void if none of the submitted works meets minimum quality standards; in this case, the amount of these three prizes will be divided and drawn among all participants.
