Nigeria's 2022 Extravagant Budget

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has presented N16.39 trillion as the 2022 budget proposal before a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday.

At first I thought it was in billions and then I looked again, trillion. Is the budget supposed to be this much? As at last year, it was N13. 6 trillion and no significant difference was seen in the country. Things were the same if not worse. Prices of goods increased and yet the claim 'change' is the motto. The mistake the citizens made was not asking what type of change; positive or negative.

No doubt, we've seen the change but all I can see is negative changes and the tommys of politicians growing bigger. This was not just the end, the president went on to say..

“Defence and internal security will continue to be our top priority. We remain firmly committed to the security of life, property and investment nationwide. We will continue to ensure that our gallant men and women in the armed forces, police and paramilitary units are properly equipped, remunerated and well-motivated.

This is the point we're eggs and banana pills should be thrown at him. Is he talking about the country's general defence and internal security or his personal troop of securities.

This same year was the year where citizens embarked on the End-SARS protest. Citizens were being harassed for no just course. A lot of people lost their lives for no just course and a whole lot of havoc was reeked. The people that were supposed to be defending us were the ones who turned against us, one can only imagine.

Moving away from the protection, there are still many areas in the country where citizens are terrorized by cultists, hoodlums, and whatnot and yet, if you manage to call the police, you'd probably hear something like, "we are closed because of security reasons". Who would now be the one protecting us?

To top it all up, a whopping sum of money would be allocated to the defence and internal security, yet, the leaders are the ones being guarded by the best men available, the leaders and not the citizens. How terrible. This country is just another thing entirely, all the same, there's nothing we can do about it. I just hope we don't go back into recession.

Have a great day…

With love, Wongi😊
