Previously on Freddy The Flea
The party agreed with Freddy to attempt to get the vial used to control the Berserkers. Four of them went about the mission, with Bruce Flea and DaFlea taking out the guards.
When they got to the gate, it was locked with a combination lock. Bruce Flea went in for a closer inspection, while Freddy tried to remember the combination.
Part 24
“I think it was 2, 3, 4, 5, 1,” Freddy said.
Bruce Flea looked towards the top of the gate.
“It has a solid drop door. If we get this wrong, it will come down and completely lock us out. Freddy, I need you to think carefully. Otherwise, it will require an alternative password.”
Freddy was still pacing up and down, “Think, think, think.”
“2,3,4,5. Dammit, what was it?”
“Freddy, you need to relax. You’re not going to remember anything if you’re stressed out. Just stop for a second and look at me,” Fria said.
Freddy knew Fria always gave solid advice. He stopped and looked at her. With her gentle and reassuring smile, Fria looked at Freddy.
“Now just breathe Freddy. I want you to take a few deep, calming breaths.”
Freddy started drawing some deep breaths.
“Good. Now close your eyes and think of a calm place. Somewhere you enjoy being.”
Freddy closed his eyes and thought about the comforts back on Mount Furry. A slight smile crossed his face as he remembered how simple things were.
“Okay, now open your eyes,” Fria asked.
Freddy looked reinvigorated. He slowly walked over towards the lock.
“Focus, Freddy,” he thought out loud.
“1,2,3,4,5,” he said, “It’s 1,2,3,4,5!”
Bruce Flea punched in the digits and the lock sprang open.
“You did it, Freddy, you did it!” he exclaimed excitedly.
“The honor is all yours,” Bruce said, as he held a guiding hand to Freddy.
Freddy picked up the vile. As the party turned back around, a large group of Roughneck Flea’s entered the far end of the chamber.
“Run!” DaFlea shouted as they hurried towards the small passage.
Bruce Flea was the last to head in, as the first Roughneck barely missed him. Luckily, too many of the Roughnecks tried entering at the same time, causing a blockage.
After some scuffling, grumbling, and moaning amongst themselves, the Roughnecks managed to restore some order, then made their way down the passage.
The small party reached Hessster’s cage.
DaFlea worked at the lock, while Bruce Flea kept an eye on the passage.
“How are you doing there, DaFlea?”
“It’s not the easiest of locks to pick. I’m doing the best I can.”
“They’re going to show up any minute now.”
It wasn’t long when Bruce Flea saw the Roughnecks coming around the corner. There were hordes of them.
“Uhm, DaFlea, they’re coming and they’re coming fast!”
“Hurry’ssss,” Hessster said with her hissing voice.
As the first lot approached, Bruce Flea managed to knock a few of them down with his Nunchucks, but there were just too many.
With a few more twists and turns, the lock clicked open.
“Got it!” DaFlea exclaimed excitedly.
Bruce Flea was surrounded by Roughnecks as Daflea opened the cage door. As they closed in around him, he managed to knock off a few more. Hessster went charging out and headed straight for the group. She knocked a bunch of Roughnecks, sending them flying and tumbling into the chamber walls.
As Hessster came to a stop next to Bruce Flea, the remaining Roughnecks decided to make a run for it.
“Yesss, runsss you cowardsss!” Hessster shouted, before letting off a deafening roar.
Freddy was beaming with pride as his new friend scared the rest off.
“Great job Hessster!” he said, as he approached to give her a thank you scratch.
He turned to DaFlea with a smile, “Thank you DaFlea. We may have gotten off on the wrong foot, but I can see you sure mean well.”
DaFlea nodded, “Okay everyone. It’s time to go find our friends and push on to Lord Tick’s chambers.”
