The community voiced a need. Multiple issues surrounding the POB frontend, since its inception, created a desire within the community for something better and easier to manage. A developer heard that call and took action. This is a story of a developer, his product, and a call for the community to now take action.
Welcome all to the new POB-Ecency frontend: https://proofofbrain.blog/
POB Ecency
The community spoke, and @leprechaun stepped up to take the challenge. On May 6, 2021, Leprechaun presented a proposal to develop the new front end based upon the Ecency platform. Ecency's front end was open-source software that anyone could adopt if they had the knowledge.
Leprechaun released community updates describing his proposal, project, successes, and frustrations during 2021:
After reviewing the site myself:
- There are aspects of the new front end that should be addressed.
Leprechaun is talented. I'll give him that, but no matter how talented the developer is, the product must be utilized and adjusted accordingly to meet the community's expectations.
He brought us a new front end. Now, it's our responsibility to provide feedback. Leprechaun needs data.
Call to Action (CTA)
The community called for a new front end. Leprechaun has created it and, with community support, received funding for its development.
- Now, we need to use it and record our observations, positive and negative, for community review.
- @Leprechaun should review this feedback and develop a separate proposal, if necessary, for continued development funding.
- Be professional in your communications. It may be difficult to correct any issues if it's clouded by emotional responses.
- Remember, the new front end is for our use. We get from it what we put into it.
CRITICAL
User engagement in this CTA is critical to further the progress of POB.
I have some recommendations.
Recommended Format
Suggestions
- Please use the tag #POB-Ecency if you are writing a new post about your observations on the new front end. It will allow people to review your work.
- Comment in this post, if necessary, about positive or negative observations. ALL observations related to this front end are welcome. I only ask that you please be professional about it.
- Please specify the browser you are using and the date/time you performed your observations. The post date of your article may not reflect the time you completed your observations.
Formatting
- Include links in your discussion. It might help find the issue's location faster.
- Include what you think is wrong. In addition to this info, include what you feel needs to be done to make things acceptable.
- If you have recommendations for improving the front end. Please state them clearly.
I will include my initial reviews below. You don't have to follow my formatting. What I use works for me well, though.
Initial Review

The following observations are made while utilizing the Brave Browser.

@scholaris.pob/wallet | Accessing this area resulted in waiting > 30 seconds for the data to populate. The function is slower than the original front end. | Please evaluate and correct as needed. |
@scholaris.pob/wallet | Without logging in, I am able to view my wallet. However, I am not able to send, receive, or claim rewards | No issues. There does not appear to be a security issue. |

hive-150329 (POB Community) | Transitioning between Trending, Hot, New, Payouts, Muted, Members, and Activities results in excessive delays with loading. | Please evaluate and correct. |

Posting Flexibility | The only option available is to create a post. You can't save drafts or create templates. | Please evaluate adding PeakD post functionality to POB. |
hive-150329 (POB Community) | POB community tags do not appear to be available in any area. | Please evaluate and add POB community tags |

Assessment
The POB-Ecency front end is not yet ready for full continuous use without further development.
What I don't Like
- Sign-in issues prevent me from posting and engaging with any community.
- Loading times appear to be similar, or worse, than the current POB front end.
- POB Community tags aren't there. In terms of curation, it will be challenging for me to quickly filter those tags specific to the POB community. It would slow my curation considerably.
- At a minimum, all features included in the current front end need to be included in the new version.
What I do Like
- You can clearly see the difference in earnings between HIVE and POB by hovering your cursor above the rewards payout.
- The design is appealing to me, as well as the presentation of information.
- We have a front end, and now we need to keep up with development.
Request for Proposal
I would like to formally ask for a proposal to accomplish the following:
- Further develop the POB-Ecency front end and address community concerns and recommendations for improvement.
- Maintain continuous monitoring and maintenance of the POB-Ecency front end for the foreseeable future.
- Include all current frontend features into the POB-Ecency platform.
- Incorporate, if possible, PeakD posting flexibility.
- Report on the progress of development.

It is our responsibility to drive things forward. I feel the POB-Ecency project is a massive undertaking. As a community member, it's a part of my responsibility to help move things forward.
I also feel that everyone has that responsibility. Please help us bring POB-Ecency to where it needs to be. Take a look for yourselves and by all means, let's talk about what we think.
Thank you for reading and following on throughout my Hive journey. Special thanks to @ashleykalila for the POB dividers.
