Parks and Playgrounds Ep - 3

In todays series I am going to explore our local miniature railway train park. This is a regular activity my family do and happens about once per month. Located on the south side of the Forest park reserve, the South West Model Engineer's Association (WA) Inc formed and has been running it since 1982.

The railway is made up of two railways, the shorter being a length of approximately 400m while the longer railway is about 1km. Both railways are provided with a platform on either side of the main station building. Both railways have been connected via track switches that are manually operated by the train drivers, so rides consist of travelling both lines. You start on one side of the platform and end the journey on the other. It's an efficient system that works well. There are bridges and tunnels that add to the features too.

"The Forrest Park station is actually an historic timber station building which once served the small country town of Capel and is probably around 100 years old. It was transported to Bunbury and placed on a platform where it was refurbished and now incorporates facilities for providing refreshments to visitors, a storage room and a ticket box plus, of course, a platform for passengers to board the trains." - Source from the Website

Hotdogs, lollies, ice-creams and drinks are served from there and have recently been updated with an eftpos machine.

Everyone has a great time here and is often used for special events for fundraising activities.

Until Next time.
