Happy World Turtle Day.
I love Turtles... they are so old and wise but they have very small brains.
Notwithstanding the small brain size, sea turtles rely primarily on instinct and are known for accomplishing amazing feats that continue to mystify the scientific community and captivate the public. Although many institutions around the world study sea turtles, there remain many components of their behavior that we have yet to fully understand, such as natal homing. Upon reaching maturity, female sea turtles navigate back to the original nesting area they are from to lay their nests. Several theories persist in how they navigate back, such as the usage of magnetic fields and chemical cues, since thirty or so years pass between the time when they were hatchlings and when they return as adults.
They just want to swim and sit in the sun all day.
That’s what I want to do. Be like a Turtle.
Turtles and tortoises are common sightings in parables, stories, and pop culture and we celebrate World Turtle Day on May 23 to honor these resilient animals. Turtles and tortoises are associated with wisdom and perseverance. They are reptiles that are found in many environments all around the world. These creatures play an important role in their respective ecosystems. They dig holes that are inhabited by other creatures and keep our beaches clean by feeding on dead fish that wash up on the shores.
They maintain an ecological balance and, therefore, it’s important to conserve these gentle animals.
