Galata Tower was built by the Genoese as a part of the Galata walls during the Byzantine Empire period, in the middle of the 14th century, when the Galata district was a Genoese colony.
Galata Tower was used as a dungeon for a while during the Ottoman period, and later it was used as a fire watchtower. It was restored a few times during the Ottoman period, and after it was restored by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, it was exhibited as a museum to the whole country and even the world.

READY TO COME TO ISTANBUL
You can reach Galata Mevlevihanesi, the first Mevlevi Lodge of Istanbul and the most important Ottoman monument in Beyoğlu, within walking distance.
In addition to being used as a museum, the Galata Tower has taken its place in history, known as Hazarfen Ahmed Çelebi's gliding.
