On the 9th of October 2021, there was a meeting held on discord by 8 pm GMT by the newbies initiative program and it was led by @starstring.

As newbies, we were asked to perform our second task since being in the initiative by answering the questions below which were derived from certain topics spoken about in the meeting.

WHY YOU MUST AVOID PLAGIARISM?
Lexico.com defines plagiarism as the practice of taking someone’s work or ideas and passing them off as one’s own and from my understanding of the meeting, plagiarism must be avoided because it is considered stealing and it shows that you lack creativity, it also prevents you from establishing your own opinions, ideas and writing style.

It is better to read and get a wilder knowledge from others about a particular topic and to share your opinions on that topic than photocopying what someone else has written.

Plagiarism is also very risky here on hive because certain accounts watch out for stolen content and you could end up blacklisted.

HOW DO YOU SOURCE A TEXT OR IMAGE ON HIVE AND WHY DO YOU HAVE TO SOURCE TEXTS AND IMAGES THAT ARE NOT YOURS?
Sourcing in my own words is the process of finding a particular thing (text or image in this context) that meets a purpose.

We can source an image by using websites like pixabay.com, freepik.com, and also the app “canva” and the major reason why we source is that not all images are free on the internet, and using one that is not free could be considered plagiarism or theft.

Also while using freepik.com and canva be sure that the images are free because not all images are on these websites and if need be, you can get the license or permission to use from the website.

Note that when using a sourced image or text, it is very vital to provide the link on your post here on hive, and an easy way to do this is by using these symbols [] (), the first would have the name of the website and the second would have the link to the website.

WHY SHOULD YOU NOT TAG NUMEROUS PEOPLE ON YOUR POST?
While tagging people on your posts on hive, it is preferable to tag people with who you have a relationship because most hivers would not appreciate being randomly tagged and getting a notification of a tag from someone they do not know.

Also tagging a lot of people should be avoided because your posts could get downvoted especially if the post on which you are tagging these people doesn’t concern them or they have no interest in it.

WHY SHOULD YOU NOT PUBLISH THE SAME ARTICLES NUMEROUS TIMES?
It was advised to avoid posting the same articles more than once because it makes the article less unique, and instead of posting the same articles more than once, you could draw inspiration from a previous article and shine a new light on it.

WHAT IS THE ACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF ARTICLES YOU CAN PUBLISH PER DAY?
It is recommended that the maximum number of articles that should be published daily should be four or less and as newbies on hive, it is advised to post once daily because in most cases the first post would get more engagements and the subsequent ones could get less.

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF ENGAGEMENT?
Engagement brings visibility, exposure, and support to our accounts on hive and it could make a big difference in our journey to success on hive.

A major part of engagement would be commenting and it was advised to actually read a post and understand before commenting, it is also important to avoid using short phrases that do not show depth.

WHAT OTHER POINTS DID YOU LEARN FROM THE VIDEO?
I learned how important your first paragraph could be in your posts because it could draw people’s interest to your articles and that could bring exposure.

I also learned how important using the right tag could be on a post and how important it is to learn about specific tags before using them.

In conclusion, I learned a lot from this meeting and it answered a lot of questions that I had already and I cannot wait for the next meeting.
