POB Word Of The Week: Invictus

Born different

Whenever I hear of the word victory, It reminds me of people who live beyond their limitations, people who did not allow their deformities define their capacity, but proved to the world that everything is possible.

A child was born with disabilities, he was ridiculed by his peers and society. Some questioned if he would ever be productive, and they looked at him with a pitied face as they concluded that he wouldn't be anything good. What can you do with no arms and legs?, When people who have both can do just little. The world turned it back against him, but he held unto the saying that "everything is possible if only you believe". The world saw a man with no arms and legs but he saw himself differently, he needed no arms or legs to do what people do as long as he believed. He had once been in that position where he rejected himself, that place where he felt worthless, but he was no longer going back to that place, he chose victory over mediocrity, whatever it takes, he was ready to give.

It wasn't an easy start, there was much failure as he tried to do things himself. The loud sound of laughter didn't discourage him, he knew there was a price for everything and consistency was it. He crawled, then gradually stood, and there it was, his faith leading him on.

He did not accept defeat, he wasn't comfortable with the name failure, he was born a victor, and there he was proving to everyone that physical deformities aren't hindrance. He became like everyone else and more as he took the path full of thorns and twists which are rarely followed.

Many had walked that path, Thomas Edison was not discouraged by failure, bill gate was not hindered by his qualifications, neither was the founder of Google weary by rejection, they all had one thing in common; the winning mindset.
