Barleycorn Music Club of Cape Town - Women's Day!

On the 9th of August I accompanied @clairemobey and @jasperdick to the Barleycorn Music Club hosted at Walala Wasala Restaurant and Sports Bar in Claremont.

This would be Jasper and Claire's 5th live performance together and their 2nd performance at the Barleycorn Music Club! Yes. His name really is Jasper Dick, as he says on stage - it was a difficult childhood. I can relate, my surname is Ludick so children would be quick to make that connection.

On stage with Jasper of all people in the world is my partner, Claire Mobey. Thus at this point, they are known collectively as Mobey Dick, not to be confused with Moby-Dick 😂😂😂 Obviously that is connection that people make!

Above is the view of the Walala Wasala pub. There is a nice big decking area where you can sit outside and smoke or have your eats. During the day, there is a kiddy play area outside and the restaurant is more family orientated. At night, the restaurant, and bar turns into more of a pub vibe.

From this direction we are looking at the back of Table Mountain. Right now the sun has dupped below the mountain but on the other side, from Seapoint and Bantry Bay the sun will likely still be above the horizon.

But there is still plenty of light in the sky. You can see the poles in the distance, this is a rugby field of course!

This is the building from a bit further away, only the left hand side of this structure is Walala Wasala. I am not sure what the rest of it is, I assume that it would have something to do with the Western Province Rugby Academy as you will see on the sign below!

Another great shot of the field and the mountains.

Here is the sign I spoke of!

inside we have the Walala Wasala restaurant and pub with the Barleycorn Music Club stage set up on the one side. It is set up in such a way that no matter where you sit, you should be able to see the stage!

There you can see the bar. I have never seen people sitting next to it, rather people tend to go there to order and then go take a seat or go outside to the decking.

And here we have the brother and sister Anna Lear Pinkney and Keagan Pinkey! Anna will be the middle act of the evening with Keagan popping up on stage once Anna's solo acts are done to sing and play the piano with her. Anna's friend Leyya Haarhoff was also on stage with her for one of the songs!

Another collaboration, as mentioned below will include Hive's very own @jasperdick and @clairemobey in one of the songs!

The first act was Carlo Bidoli, a Musician/Songwriter/Producer and one of the presenters of the Barleycorn Music Club.

Carlo played some wonderful tunes to start the evening and swapped guitars multiple times to suit the songs that he played. Very entertaining and Carlo brought an casual discipline to the crowd requiring the audience to respect the acts and give a good listen to the music being played.

Here is Anna Lear on the stage on her own, regaling the crowd with a plethora of origional songs that she wrote. Each one had a backstory and greater meaning. She did really well and was immensely entertaining!

And here we have the Puppet Master song! @jasperdick and @clairemobey provided backup vocals and acting antics as the henchmen!

Look at @jasperdick hanging off his pupperstrings! @clairemobey has also gone to "sleep" until the Puppet Master brings them back into action with a wave of her hand!

And finally, @jasperdick and @clairemobey took to the stage with a whopping 9 songs! I honestly cannot tell you which photo belongs to which song, but if you head to @clairemobey, she has posted some of the songs.

I am usually "band support" at these events, helping people with their instruments and bags and while they are on stage I might bring them a drink or another piece of equipment.

Of course, another job that I do is to take videos and photos of the events. So all of this pictures are taken by me.

These last few photos were actually taken from the videos I made of each one of songs that they sang!

Well, I hope you enjoyed this post. Mobey-Dick will be performing at Salt & Sage in Table View in September!

Until then...

Cheers!
@zakludick
