These photographs are captured on the road during a visit to Ladakh. I remember this is the Khardungla Pass which has spectacular views from the top.
Khardung La Pass is a high mountain pass near Leh in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir. Known as the gateway to the Nubra and Shyok valleys in the Ladakh region. Khardung La Pass, also commonly known as Khadjong La, is a very important strategic pass in the Siachen Glacier.
It boasts of the highest road route in the world at an altitude of 5,602 metres, but the actual elevation is 5359 metres. The natural beauty of Khardung La pass, the breeze makes you feel as if you are on the top of the world. And also you can get picturesque views of the Karakoram Range and the Himalayas from here.
Khardung La Pass has become a major tourist destination of Jammu and Kashmir in the last few years. Which is an ideal place in Jammu and Kashmir for adventure, enthusiasts, peace seekers and mountain biking, which is truly worth visiting.
Khardung La Pass was built in 1976 and was opened to the public in 1988. Due to heavy rain and snowfall, Khardung La Pass is closed from July to August and November to February.
The location of Khardung La Pass is important for India as it is used to supply supplies to the Siachen Glacier. If you are planning to visit Khardung La Pass, then let us tell you that Khardung La Pass lacks proper medical facility. That's why travel with some safety kit and first aid kit.
The best time to visit Khardung La Pass, the famous tourist destination of Ladakh, is between April to June and September to October. During summer the roads of Khardung La Pass are dry so you will find the route less dangerous. And these days the temperature of Khardung La Pass reaches up to 21 degree Celsius which is favorable for your trip.
However, the nights can be cold when the mercury dips down to 7 degree Celsius. It is recommended to avoid visiting Khardung La Pass from July to August and November to February, as there is heavy snowfall during this time. And often, the pass is also closed during these months.
