Good morning fellow Hivers 💖 I want to share with you this morning how I cut and sewn a lovely short sleeve shirt using a stripe shirt material.
I will take you through the process step by step with detailed information, you might want to give it a trial.
MATERIALS USED
- Fabric (shirt material)
- Collar stay
- Chest gum
- Buttons
- Thread
- Paper stay.
First thing to do is getting your measurements, then you proceed to cutting of the material.
CUTTING PROCESS
To me, this is the simplest way of cutting a shirt.
Put the tip of your fabric together, fold 2 inches then start your measurements from there.
Using this measurement for example
Chest 40
Shoulder 18
Length 30
Sleeve 24
Looking at this measurement, you'll see the person is an adult, so you can determine your neck and armhole using IQ.
So I measured the neck, 2.5 by 3 inches, then the shoulder divided by 2 plus 0.5 inches as allowance, the 2 inches shoulder rest and 7.5 inches as armhole, then the chest divided by 4 plus 0.5 sewing allowance and 0.75 as button overlapping allowance, then the length and I joined the dotted lines.
Then I proceeded to cutting of the back, placing the front on the back, taking off the button allowance but adding 3 inches and 2.5 inches respectively to the shoulder and cut out.
Then I cut the sleeve
SEWING PROCESS
After seeing the button allowances, then I joined the shoulders
Then I added the sleeve, with little design, after which I close the body using piping method.
Then I folded the tip and fixed the pocket and collar
