Star Wars Stormtrooper Cake

I am a pretty big Star Wars fan and have been every since I was little. I remember watching the originals and absolutely loving them. Time for another Star Wars-themed dessert. This Star Wars Cake stormtrooper is amazing and pretty easy to make.

If you are a beginner when it comes to fondant this is a great cake to start with, since there are only two colors of fondant you have to worry about, white and black. So it is totally okay if you aren’t really that good at cake design. In fact, cake design is one of my weaknesses.

This Star Wars Cake Stormtrooper is super fun to make, if I can do it, you can do it. Let’s get started!

Ingredients

1 Standard cake (with required ingredients) cake mix, homemade, etc. (15 oz/430g)
10 oz Frosting
14 oz White fondant
2 oz Black fondant

Instructions

Bake the cake in a 12 inch round or 13x9 inch rectangle pan according to the recipe and allow it to cool completely.

Print out the Stormtrooper face stencil. You can find several online. You may need to scale it up on a sheet of paper to get the size you want.

Cut around the stencil with scissors so you just have the Stormtrooper face.

Remove cake from the pan and place on a cutting board. Set the stencil on top and trim around it with a knife. Save the trimmed cake pieces for cake pops or cakesicles or just snack on them.

Add cake to a cake board if desired. Frost the entire trimmed cake.

Knead a large chunk of white fondant and then roll it out, on parchment paper or a silicone mat until it is about two inches larger than the stencil all around and about 1/8th inch thick.

Cover the cake with the white fondant and smooth it with your clean hands and fingers. Form it around the cake the best as you can.

Trim the excess fondant from the base of the cake with a knife.

Cut the black band at the top of the stencil, the eyes, nosepiece, mouthpiece, and two circles out of the Stormtrooper stencil.

Knead and roll out a chunk of black fondant. Then place the stencil pieces on it and cut all of them out.

Use the main stencil as a guide on the cake and place the black pieces where they belong on the face. Use a brush with a tiny bit of water to hold the black fondant facepieces on the cake.

Add the little white fondant pieces on the nose part if desired.

Roll a small piece of black fondant into a thin snake and trim 8 pieces. Set those on the cheek parts of the Stormtrooper cake. Use water as necessary to hold it down.

The Star Wars Stormtrooper cake is done. Enjoy!
