Chocolate Balloon Bowls

Time to impress your friends and family with these amazing homemade chocolate balloon bowls.

What are they? Well, they are bowls made of chocolate that are made with water balloons. Isn’t that awesome? They create the perfect container to hold ice cream, candies, fruit, or any number of other things. Maybe you want to have your morning cereal in one? So many possibilities.

These chocolate ballon bowls are a chocolate lovers dream. And it is a fun activity to do with the family and kids. They are so simple and easy to make, if I can do it, you can do it. Let’s get started!

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces of chocolate chips any kind (340g)
  • 1 Tbsp. of oil vegetable, etc. (15ml)
  • Fillings (ice cream, fruit, whipped cream, etc.)

Instructions

Wash and dry the balloons, then fill them up with air. Don't fill them up too much. The size of the balloon will determine the size of the chocolate bowl.

Add the chocolate and the oil to a microwave-safe bowl and melt it in the microwave using bursts of 30 seconds and then stirring, and repeating until melted.

Or melt them on the stovetop with the double-boiler method. Take a pot and add about an inch deep of water to it. Take a large metal bowl or pyrex bowl and set it on the pot. Set the burner to medium. As the water heats up the steam will heat the bowl and melt the chocolate.

Line a sheet pan with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Then take a spoon and scoop some of the chocolate and create a disc, about the size of a half-dollar, on the pan. Do this for as many bowls as you want to make. These will be the bases for the bowls.

Take a balloon and dip it straight down into the chocolate, then straight up. Let the excess drain off, then place it on the chocolate base. Once all dipped, put the pan in the fridge so the chocolate can set. Usually takes at least 30 minutes.

Once the chocolate sets you can pop the balloons! Poke them with a knife, or another pointy tool. Remove the popped balloon from the bowls.

You can leave them on parchment paper or put the chocolate bowls on a plate. Fill them up with whatever you like, ice cream, candy, whipped cream, fruit, etc. Enjoy!
