[ENG-ESP] DIY: PERFORMING FULL MAINTENANCE ON MY BIKE - REALIZANDO MANTENIMIENTO COMPLETO A MI BICICLETA

Hola amigos, espero que esten muy bien, hoy quiero relatarles como le hice un mantenimiento completo a mi bicicleta. La llevé a un mecánico profesional porque no tenia tiempo para hacerlo yo mismo, así que la llevé al taller pero me estaban cobrando demasiado así que decidí hacerlo por mi cuenta y los resultadors fueron geniales. Espero les guste y les sirva.

Al quitar ambas ruedas las examiné muy bien y descubrí algunos detalles importantes. Los neumaticos se estan agrietando, especialmente el de la rueda trasera. Esto se debe a que lleva todo el peso y la carga es mayor. También las llantas estan algo torcidas pero levemente así que yo mismo pude quitarles ese detalle. Tambien el motivo de esta reparación fue por que la cámara de aire delantera había estallado y compré una nueva. El ultimo detalle es que los ejes de las transmisiones estaban muy sucios, con el tiempo la tierra y el polvo se juntaron con la grasa lubricante y formaron una capa dificil de remover y que hacía más lenta la bicicleta.

I removed the bearings and axles from each of the wheels, buy you can see they were very dirty. I took out each part to clean and then put new lubricating grease on it.

Retiré los rodamientos y los ejes de cada una de la ruedas, compre pueden apreciar estaban muy sucios. Saqué cada parte para limpiarlas y luego ponerle grasa lubricante nueva.

We carefully remove each piece of the bearings and clean them very well. We can use detergent soap and a brush, that way we extract all the layers of impurity. Once clean we lubricate each part with oil, and we pass a piece of cloth to it to dry well. Then we clean the parts of the wheel and remove all the old grease that it had and put new lubricating grease and finally we introduce the axles as they were before removing them. We do this process on each wheel.

Sacamos con cuidado cada pieza de los rodamientos y las limpiamos muy bien. Podemos utilizar jabón detergente y un cepillo, de esa manera extraemos todas las capas de impureza. Una vez limpio lubricamos cada parte con aceite, y le pasamos un pedazo de tela para secar bien. Luego limpiamos las parte de la rueda y sacamos toda la grasa vieja que tenía y ponemos grasa lubricante nueva y por último vamos introduciendo los ejes tal cual iban antes de sacarlos. Este proceso lo hacemos en cada rueda.

Then we replace the old inner tubes with new ones on both wheels and put them inside the tires very carefully. This part is delicate because if we do not do it correctly we can open a hole in the air chamber. Then with the air pump we proceed to fill and finally we mount the wheels on the bicycle again.

Luego a ambas ruedas les sustituimos las cámaras de aire viejas por unas nuevas y la metemos dentro de lo neumáticos con mucho cuidado. Esta parte es delicada porque sino lo hacemos correctamete podemos abrirle un agujero a la cámara de aire. Luego con la bomba de aire procedemos a llenar y por último montamos de nuevo las ruedas en la bicicleta.

Then we turn the bicycle to better clean the transmission chain and the rear sprocket. With an old toothbrush and gasoline we clean each of the links of the chain and thus also the pinion. We can pedal the bike and make the process faster and easier. This helps to remove all the impurities that can damage the chain then we put lubricating oil on both parts. We also took the opportunity to clean the rear speed derailleur, we removed the bearings and cleaned them very well and reassembled.

Seguidamente volteamos la bicicleta para poder limpiar mejor la cadena de la transmisión y el piñon trasero. Con un viejo cepillo de dientes y gasolina limpiamos cada uno de los eslabones de la cadena y así también el piñon. Podemos darle pedal a la bicicleta y hacer el proceso más rápido y sencillo. Esto ayuda a sacar todas las impurezas que pueden dañar la cadena luego le ponemos aceite lubricante a ambas partes. También aprovechamos para limpiar el desviador trasero de velocidad, le quitamos los rodamientos y los limpiamos muy bien y volvemos a armar.

Another problem to solve was the brakes, they were very loose and unbalanced. I removed them from the bike and proceeded to disassemble them to clean them with extreme care, I tightened each nut and bolt and put a few drops of lubricant on them and reinstalled it to adjust the brakes well and they would be working perfectly.

Otro problema a resolver fueron los frenos, estaban muy flojos y desbalanceados. Los retiré de la bicicleta y procedi a desarmarlos para limpiarlos con extremo cuidado, apreté cada tuerca y tornillo y les puse unas gotitas de lubricante y volví a instalarlo para graduar bien los frenos y quedaran funcionando perfecto.

The last step and to finish it was to place the tapes on the handlebars. Road bikes use special ribbons that reduce vibration on the road, but they are very expensive, at the moment I cannot buy them so I decided to improvise. With a piece of white synthetic leather I made two large strips, I covered each part of the handlebars, covering very well without leaving parts uncovered. I placed the locks at the bottom that are two plugs that press the beginning of the tape and to finish I placed electrical insulating tape to fix the tape well and not to disengage.

EL último paso y ya para finalizar fue colocarle las cintas al manubrio. Las bicicletas de ruta utilizan unas cintas especiales que reducen la vibración en la carretera, pero son muy costosas, por el momento no puedo comprarselas así que decidí improvisar. Con pedazo de cuero sintético de color blanco hice dos grandes tiras, fui cubriendo cada parte del manubrio tapando muy bien sin dejar partes descubiertas. Coloqué los seguros en la parte inferior que son dos tapones que presionan el inicio de la cinta y para finalizar coloqué cinta aislante de electricidad para fijar bien la cinta y que no se desajustara.

FINAL WORK

This is how the final result has been, my bike has had a great break with this maintenance that I did. Honestly, with what they were charging me in the workshop, I would have had to stop eating for a whole month to pay, so that was an extra motivation to do it on my own. Sometimes we just have to dare, and if we don't know something, ask someone else. I hope you liked it and ride a bicycle, it is the best in the world, I recommend it. I say goodbye to you soon.

Así ha quedado el resultado final, mi bicicleta ha tenido un gran respiro con este mantenimiento que le hice. Sinceramente con lo que me estaban cobrando en el taller hubiera tenido que dejar de comer un mes entero para poder pagar, así que esa fue una motivación extra para hacerlo por mis propios medios. A veces solo tenemos que atrevernos, y sino sabemos algo preguntarselo a otra persona. Espero que les haya gustado y manejen bicicleta, es lo mejor del mundo, se los recomiendo.
