Un día paseando por la ciudad de Gibraltar me crucé con un coche escoltado por el ejército británico. Era un vehículo descapotable donde iba la plana mayor para la futura Operación Torch.
One day while walking through the city of Gibraltar I came across a car escorted by the British army. It was a convertible vehicle where the top brass was going for the future Operation Torch.
Junto al conductor viajaba el Comandante Montgomery y detrás iban el General Eisenhower y el Primer Ministro Británico Winston Churchill.
Alongside the driver was Commander Montgomery and behind him were General Eisenhower and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
Se había escogido Gibraltar como Cuartel General para la Operación Torch, donde se iba a planear el desembarco de las tropas aliadas en el Norte de África para luchar contra las tropas del Eje que estaban en Marruecos, Argelia, Túnez y Libia luchando contra el ejército británico que se defendían en Egipto.
Gibraltar had been chosen as the headquarters for Operation Torch, where the landing of the allied troops in North Africa was to be planned to fight the Axis troops who were in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya fighting the British army defending itself in Egypt.
La comitiva no pasó desapercibida y los ciudadanos de la Roca salieron de sus casas para saludar a estos grandes personajes.
The retinue did not go unnoticed and the citizens of the Rock came out of their houses to greet these great figures.
El primer Ministro Churchill me vio y me pidió que me reuniera con ellos. Necesitaban que contactara con mis agentes infiltrados en la Francia de Vichy en los países norteafricanos para que la operación sea un éxito.
Prime Minister Churchill saw me and asked me to meet them. They needed me to contact my agents infiltrating Vichy France in the North African countries to make the operation a success.
Aquí acaba uno de mis sueños imposibles de haber contribuido a la victoria aliada.
Here ends one of my impossible dreams of having contributed to the Allied victory.
