The altitude, the cold and the strong humidity are undoubtedly three of the characteristic elements that are not lacking in the El Boliche area, a camp located on the slopes of the Cotopaxi Volcano. An environment that is also conducive to the formation and spread of mushrooms and fungi of all kinds.

Coincidentally, in the Andes they call Callampas, a word of Quechua origin, the great variety of mushrooms that grow in the high mountains of these towns. Although they generally refer to edible mushrooms when using this indigenous word.

These in specific, I photographed them in the bark of a pine, very close to the cabins where I spent the night on that occasion, in one of the last areas of vegetation strip before entering the frozen zone of perpetual snow in the cone of the volcano Cotopaxi.

La altura, el frío y la fuerte humedad sin duda son tres de los elementos característicos que no faltan en la zona de El Boliche, campamento ubicado en las propias faldas del Volcán Cotopaxi. Ambiente que además resulta propicio para la formación y propagación de setas y hongos de todo tipo.

Casualmente, en los Andes llaman Callampas, palabra de origen quechua, a la gran variedad de hongos que crecen en las altas serranías de estos pueblos. Aunque por lo general se refieren a hongos comestibles al usar esta palabra indígena.

Estos en específicos, los fotografié en la corteza de un pino, muy cerca de las cabañas donde pernocte en esa ocasión, en una de las últimas zonas de franja vegetal antes de entrar en la gélida zona de nieve perpetua en el cono del volcán.
