Hoy día de celebración en mi tierra, logré coincidir en mi camino con un señor que desde pequeña he visto andar por las calles. Se hace llamar el “Loco de la pancarta” y anda en una lucha por el bienestar de los pacientes psiquiátricos. Debo decir que sentí con alegría haber vivido esta experiencia pues pude pasar algunas palabras con destacado Señor, emblema de mi estado.
Today, a day of celebration in my homeland, I managed to coincide on my way with a man that I have seen walking the streets since I was a child. He calls himself the "Madman with the banner" and he is fighting for the welfare of psychiatric patients. I must say that I was very happy to have lived this experience because I was able to spend a few words with this outstanding gentleman, emblem of my state.
Se llama Argenis Giménez, y como dice en el escrito que me pasó no tiene profesión, ni status, ni equipo, ni recurso, ni siquiera apoyo gubernamental para trabajar en su propuesta. El señor Argenis, cuando le tomé la fotografía me llamó la atención y me dijo que debía tomar la foto era caminando, pues esa era una marcha de protesta que él venía haciendo por casi 29 años.
His name is Argenis Giménez, and as he says in the letter he gave me, he has no profession, no status, no equipment, no resources, not even governmental support to work on his proposal. Mr. Argenis, when I took his picture he called my attention and told me that I should take the picture was walking, because this was a protest march that he had been doing for almost 29 years.
Sobre su cabeza lleva la pancarta que nos dice que han sido ya casi 29 años de lucha, una protesta que para mí no se ve solo al caminar, sino a lo que hace ese peso en su estructura ósea y muscular. Algunos podrían tenerle miedo, pero yo creo que locos estamos los que desde lejos observamos su lucha y no hacemos nada para ayudarlo.
Over his head he carries the banner that tells us that it has been almost 29 years of struggle, a protest that for me is not only seen in his walking, but in what that weight does to his bone and muscle structure. Some might be afraid of him, but I think those of us who watch his struggle from afar and do nothing to help him are crazy.
Su escrito es letrado, impecable al igual que su trato. Me encomendó hablar de esta situación por redes sociales y ayudarlo, sentí un nudo en la garganta al ver que a veces solo luchamos por lo que nos conviene, y no por lo que otros padecen, y que también olvidamos que en ese lugar también podemos estar algún día. El Señor Argenis dice en su escrito:

A veces pasamos por la vida quejándonos tanto de una crisis que nos ha cambiado hasta la manera de alimentarnos, pero ¿Estamos conscientes de que hay personas que en este momento están en condiciones de maltrato y descuido en todos los sentidos?
