Cuando Jesús de Nazaret envió a sus discípulos a predicar, les confirió poder y autoridad para expulsar toda clase de demonios y para curar enfermedades. Lo primero que hay que resaltar es la confianza de Jesús en sus elegidos, lo segundo el privilegio que significó para los doce ser misioneros de la palabra de Dios, portadores de la Buena Nueva.

When Jesus of Nazareth sent his disciples out to preach, he gave them power and authority to cast out all kinds of demons and to cure diseases. The first thing that must be highlighted is the trust of Jesus in his chosen ones, the second the privilege that it meant for the twelve to be missionaries of the word of God, bearers of the Good News.

Otro detalle importante que resalta el evangelio de san Lucas 9, 1-6, es que Jesús les dio poder y autoridad el poder viene de Dios y a Él le pertenece, porque es Todopoderoso, y hablar con autoridad significa con conocimiento de causa, con moral; además, quien habla con autoridad puede dar testimonio con su experiencia de vida. Los apóstoles son los discípulos de mayor credulidad del Mesías y en ellos estaban puestas las esperanzas de Jesús de perpetuar su mensaje. Los apóstoles podían dar testimonios porque recibieron la luz del Señor, porque conocían al cordero de Dios, eran los amigos del Maestro, por tal motivo eran testigos presenciales de extraordinarios milagros y acontecimientos, así como de maravillosos discursos de fe que motivaban y enseñaban el camino hacia Dios.

Another important detail highlighted by the Gospel of Luke 9:1-6 is that Jesus gave them power and authority, the power comes from God and belongs to Him, because He is Almighty, and speaking with authority means with knowledge of the facts, with morals; in addition, those who speak with authority can bear witness with their life experience. The apostles are the disciples of the greatest credulity of the Messiah and in them were placed the hopes of Jesus to perpetuate his message. The apostles could bear witness because they received the light of the Lord, because they knew the Lamb of God, they were the friends of the Master, for that reason they were eyewitnesses of extraordinary miracles and events, as well as wonderful discourses of faith that motivated and taught the way to God.

En el evangelio Jesús dice a sus discípulos: "No lleven nada para el camino: ni bastón, ni bolsa, ni pan, ni dinero, ni ropa de repuesto. En cualquier casa donde lleguen, quédense hasta que se vayan del lugar. Y si en algún pueblo no los quieren recibir, salgan de él y sacúdanse el polvo de los pies, para que les sirva a ellos de advertencia." Para Jesús la humildad era muy importante, por eso enseñó a los suyos a ocuparse mas del espíritu que del cuerpo, de las cosas de Dios que de las cosas de los hombres. Jesús les ordena ir ligeros a predicar con sinceridad y concentrados en la misión, sin estar pendientes de cosas materiales que les pudiera ocupar la atención. Los enviados del Maestro no iban a presumir sino a curar enfermos y a expulsar demonios, debían enseñar con el ejemplo y para ello la austeridad era fundamental, debían tener un trato cordial con la gente y estrechar lazos de amistad, tener empatía con su prójimo era la consigna, ellos debían tratar a la gente como sus iguales sin discriminación de ningún tipo, ellos tenían que manifestar su fe e ir convencidos que eran los enviados de Dios.

In the Gospel Jesus tells his disciples: "Do not take anything for the journey: no stick, no bag, no bread, no money, no spare clothes. In whatever house you arrive, stay until you leave the place And if some people do not want to receive you, leave it and shake the dust from your feet, so that it may serve as a warning." For Jesus, humility was very important, that is why he taught his people to be more concerned with the spirit than with the body, with the things of God than with the things of men. Jesus orders them to go lightly to preach with sincerity and focused on the mission, without being aware of material things that could occupy their attention. The Master's envoys were not going to show off but to heal the sick and expel demons, they had to teach by example and for this austerity was fundamental, they had to have a cordial treatment with people and to strengthen ties of friendship, having empathy with their neighbor was the slogan, they had to treat people as their equals without discrimination of any kind, they had to manifest their faith and be convinced that they were God's envoys.

Lectura del Santo Evangelio según San Lucas (Lc 9, 1-6)
En aquel tiempo, Jesús reunió a sus doce discípulos, y les dio poder y autoridad para expulsar toda clase de demonios y para curar enfermedades. Los envió a anunciar el reino de Dios y a sanar a los enfermos. Les dijo:
—No lleven nada para el camino: ni bastón, ni bolsa, ni pan, ni dinero, ni ropa de repuesto. En cualquier casa donde lleguen, quédense hasta que se vayan del lugar. Y si en algún pueblo no los quieren recibir, salgan de él y sacúdanse el polvo de los pies, para que les sirva a ellos de advertencia.
Salieron ellos, pues, y fueron por todas las aldeas, anunciando la buena noticia y sanando enfermos.

Reading of the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke (Lk 9:1-6)
At that time, Jesus gathered his twelve disciples, and gave them power and authority to cast out all kinds of demons and to cure diseases. He sent them to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He told them:
"Do not carry anything for the road: no cane, no bag, no bread, no money, no spare clothes. In any house where you arrive, stay until you leave the place. And if in some village they do not want to receive them, come out of it and shake the dust from your feet, so that it may serve as a warning to them.
They went out, then, and went all over the villages, announcing the good news and healing the sick.
