I have been on a search for a good Science Fiction film for a while now so when I saw that there was one that I hadn't seen that starred Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly I thought I was going to be in for a real treat. For a guy that watches as many films as I do I am a little disappointed in myself that this is the case. The story here is that an large spacecraft of sorts descends on the planet with a single creature emerging from it that of course, the military immediately tries to kill even though it has done nothing threatening. During his time with researcher Helen Bensen (Connelly) she is able to determine that saving the Earth from destruction actually means that he intends to kill all of mankind in order to allow the planet to recover from the damage that humans perpetuate upon it. He is constantly pursued by the police and military and he also has extraordinary power to control electricity and basically anything technology oriented. His pal that is with him, a giant humanoid looking robot thinger the humans nickname GORT, is also rather impenetrable to all weaponry, as they military finds out any time they attempt to destroy it. https://i.imgur.com/vD1qW3lh.jpg [src](https://i.imgur.com/vD1qW3lh.jpg) That's all I'm really going to reveal about the story and don't feel as though the above is a spoiler because it is all either contained in the trailer or in the first 10 minutes of the film or so. Keanu Reeves is basically "Neo" in this role and as is true with a lot of his performances he is very wooden and emotionless which might have made him perfect for the role of an uncaring and very logically oriented alien. However, this doesn't really mean that I thought the performance was good, it just seems Keanu-ish. Connelly shines as one would expect, because she is fantastic and she wad definitely cast correctly as a brilliant scientist who is able to related to an alien species and serve as humanities last hope for convincing them to spare us. Jaden Smith does a pretty great job in his role of Jacob Benson and I think this was because this was the point in time where Jaden was yet to become the asshole that he is today, and was also at his prime as far as acting capabilities are concerned. Should I watch it?

If you are a sci-fi fan it will likely appeal to you but if not I think you will find the film rather "meh". The story is a little difficult to follow and in the end it doesn't really make a great deal of sense. It also doesn't have a definitive ending, which is a little frustrating. I think that you could do worse than watching this film, but there are far better options now in the sci-fi realm as well as just films on Netflix in general.
