Hail to the Hive!

The day has finally arrived after six weeks of waiting. Our new engine for Badger the Narrowboat and we are at the boatyard to have the old one removed.

This is the big beast for the job.

I was captivated by this big machine as soon as I saw it. The sheer size, the tracks the overwhelming sense of power it exudes.

While we were waiting I took the time to capture a few shots as they weren’t keen on being photographed while in operation as it was a distraction and i can appreciate that.

They were just using it to lift out out engine from the engine bay but they primarily use this colossal beast to lift entire boats out of the canal for inspection and repair.

It’s a weird sight to see it moving with a boat swinging below the crane. Looks odd and out of proportion, such heavy objects being dangled like toys.

Needless to say it made light work of our little engine.
