My entry for the #monomad challenge.
As I picked up my vehicle for the last time at my former company, I noticed how much progress the construction crew had made on one-quarter of a city block. My former company had purchased low-income units a few years ago and finally decided to raze the buildings to make room for a new parking lot.
It's another one of those moments that can be, dare I say, a bit profound? You think that in this space there were maybe 25 units? Each unit had probably hundreds of families that rented over the past 30 years or so.
These buildings were in no way, shape, or form historic in the classic sense. Yet like other buildings in this area, historic or not, a lot of them have been leveled to make way for parking lots. A lot of actual beautiful old buildings have been razed in the past simply to make room for car dealerships...as I said...urban progress.
It is what it is, and urban progress pushes forward.
Just like that, these images seem like they are out of a dream. In the next month or so, no one will even remember any of this. Another fleeting moment is gone forever, but better things certainly are on the way!
Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my work. Even this photo grab, with my trusty Droid, was a bit bittersweet. One last time to stop by and pick up the car...at least this time urban decay was all around me.
