It was raining. My wife and I had the urge to eat Sushi. Very near my house is a Sushi restaurant. Sushi Mentai. Sushi designed with the Malaysian fusion. I've tried authentic Japanese Sushi and it is different from the Malaysian version.
Malaysian chefs tends to add more gustatory blends making sushi more salty, more umami.
The starter kit 🍣🍣🍣
These were all taken from the conveyor belt that was beside us. Plates move about in their pre-programmed trail. Sushi served at an affordable price. Perhaps one of the cheapest place to eat Japanese food.
Salmon Nigiri (Thin slice of salmon on top of rice) - I usually have lots of this. Cheese chu maki, Salmon Mayo, Inari chu maki / beancurd on rice
Salmon Maki
The ultimate sushi. Sometimes I have six plates of this. Crazy over Salmon. Dipped in wasabi and then into the mouth. The high comes from the pain in the brain once the chemicals from the wasabi dissolves into my receptors embedded in my nasal cavity.
Beancurd Maki
This is more of a Malaysian creation rather than authentic Japanese. Malaysian love to create an alternate version of the originals not for products but for food.
Chicken floss on top of rice and tempura prawn
This is also neither Japanese.
Salmon Mayo
This is what the menu calls it. The Salmon Mayo (shortened from Mayonnaise) to have it sound more Japanese and not Malaysian. Imagine it being called Salmon Mayonnaise.
My wife enjoying her meal and behind is the Sushi Mentai wallpaper. This restaurant is pretty popular due to its affordable price.
The interior
Tall ceilings. Clean floors. Cold aircon. On a rainy day. There was a table full of loud speaking diners. Luckily, half way eating, they left. We ordered extra items from the menu.
The glass panel with wooden outer pellets nailed together.
The conveyor belt
Within reach, easily accessible. The food is slightly cold. I usually don't order drinks at Sushi restaurants. They do not have coffee.
The other diners chatting and dating. Today is a holiday, so the place is filled up close to full capacity.
Chuka Idako
Baby octopus in sesame and slightly sweet sauce with sliced cucumber. This is also one of my favourite dishes.
Dumplings
I don't think dumplings are served at an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant. Another Malaysian way to cater for the Malaysian taste.
Oyster Tempura
Raw oyster fried into beautiful golden fritters. The Japanese style of frying is that there always have this more crunchy bits attached. You can hear yourself biting on them.
Finally this is a dish that must be ordered in any sushi restaurants in Malaysia.
The Prawn tempura
Prawn tempura is one of those items on the menu that is ordered . Prawns mixed with batter, fried. Mayonnaise complements the taste.
This is what I ate today at Sushi Mentai. I hope you like it.
