Celebration Of Iedul Adha In Indonesia

Indonesia is a country with a Moslem majority. Celebrating Eid El Adha is becoming a tradition. People who have excess wealth will sacrifice part of their ownership to sacrifice livestock to be slaughtered and distribute the meat to the poor, neighbors, and relatives.

The animals that are permitted in the sacrifice are cows, sheep and goats. A cow represents seven people, while a goat represents one person. People who sacrifice can slaughter the animal by themselves or submit it to the committee for slaughtering sacrificial animals. Most people submit to the committee.

The process of slaughtering animals begins after finishing Eid El Adha prayer in the morning. It is about 8;00 AM. In my neighbourhood, today there were 10 goats and 3 cows. I was part of the committee. The process of slaughtering cows was a little bit difficult because the cows had strong power. There were more than 7 people who took down the cow first. The executor was ready with a sword. When everything was ready, the slaughtering process started.
After being slaughtered, all the people work to cut the meat into packages. Today, we made about 300 packages for the meat of 3 cows and 10 goats. A package contained about 2 kilograms of meat.
