Cops raid illegal party, find birthday cake

They found a lot of other stuff but I just found it extremely amusing that the headline included that birthday cake was found in the group. There were multiple kinds of drugs and it was against the rules for the people to be gathering in these numbers anyway.

While I too am not terribly happy about the notion that lockdown and social distancing has come to a great deal of Thailand and is likely to head our way before too long, we all know that one fantastic way to get caught doing anything illegal is to make a bunch of noise and annoy your neighbors. This is exactly what these people did. Everyone in attendance is very aware of the fact that they are not supposed to be gathering in numbers and the only thing they needed to do in order to get away with this magnificent crime was to not act like noisy jerks. Well, they decided to act like noisy jerks and it wasn't long until the neighbors had enough and contacted the police.

This is not an isolated incident. There have been large parties that have been busted that had foreigners at it as well. We are no innocent in this regard and I am not trying to suggest that anyone is. I did find it amusing that the police brought so many people with them and was reminded of a clip in a film called "The Usual Suspects" where one of the guys gets arrested while not resisting at all and he says to the officers "sure you brought enough guys?"

The headline read "Police arrest 21 in Thong Lor party: drugs, alcohol, and birthday cake found."

The drugs and alcohol were expected, but birthday cake? The audacity of these people! I hope the judge throws the book at them.

I will admit that I go to gatherings that would probably be considered "illegal" but they are on private property with people that are aware of the "risks" and we don't make a crap ton of noise. When the lockdowns were in full effect here in Chiang Mai I still went over to some friends' houses from time-to-time but we didn't act like a bunch of loud idiots and there haven't ever been 21 of us in a small hotel room type space.

So I don't know what these guys are going to get charged with: Probably a whole bunch of things. Like a lot of things in Thailand though, whether or not they get into any trouble because of this largely depends on how much money they and their families have.

I just can't wrap my head around how thick these people are that were having the party. You know that you are not supposed to have large gatherings regardless of how you personally feel about it. You probably would have been able to get away with it if you had just been cool... but nah, you decided to blast music and make yourselves a nuisance for all of the neighbors. You got what you deserved. Hopefully you had some birthday cake before the cops turned up.
