Indonesian Local Dessert – Ice Tebak and Ice Teler: Sweet and Cold

Hello Everybody and Hello Asean Hive Community. I want to ask you something, if the time of day and the sunlight feel hot what would you do? First, maybe we'll hang some of the clothes we wash, and shelter from the sunlight as stay at home or go in search of a fresh brew or cold dessert?

Last Sunday, the weather in my city is very hot and it looks like I could melt in the sunlight. My wife and I decided to go to one of our subscriptions from the first to enjoy a cold dessert that is sold there.

The place was named Es Gantino Baru. Is located at Jl. Sisingamangaraja no. 63 the Terrain is not far from Al Mahsun Grand Mosque (icon my city). Es Gantino Baru has existed since the 1970s and keep the consistency of taste and quality since the first. Why do I know? it turns out this place is also a favorite place for my in-laws while going out first.

Es Gantino Baru selling various types of cold desserts such as Ice Tebak, Ice Johor, Ice Teler, Ice Sanghai, and to the food menu there Satai Padang and Soto Padang. The place is very clean and neat so if you want to eat in a place you do not need to hesitate because when I got there the table was almost full of visitors, especially by visitors brought to the family. I decided to order Ice Tebak and my wife ordered Ice teller. I will try to describe what it's Ice Tebak and Ice Teler, so friends can enjoy it too.


Ice Tebak

Ice Tebak is a dessert shaped as a cold drink that is famous in Payakumbuh, West Sumatra. Usually, Ice Tebak is served with a small bowl. Yes, this dessert is not native to my area of Medan city, but the province of North Sumatra and West Sumatra is directly adjacent so many minang people migrated and open a business in the city of Medan.

Original cold dessert from minang got a taste of that sweet, cold, with the stuffing a lot and can make us full. Ice Tebak is composed of pieces of papaya fruit, jelly with a variety of colors such as red, white, and green, tape singkong, pieces of bread, and TEBAK. Tebak, shaped like cendol but has the texture of elongated and more flattened than the noodles. Next, add fresh coconut milk, sweetened condensed milk, and shaved ice on top of it. Usually, to add flavor also added powdered milk, milo chocolate. This is what distinguishes Ice Campur from Ice Tebak.


Ice Teler

Ice Teler is the Indonesian Cocktail Fruit. Ice Teler is one of the dishes that we can't deny while in very hot weather. Ice Teler is the development of ice campur. In the 80s, there are a seller of ice campur in Jakarta who makes this dish by adding some fresh fruit such as avocado and jackfruit. The flavor of the drink is very tasty and makes everyone who eats it become easement and “Teler”. Teler is the Indonesian vocabulary that is popular in the 1980s-1990s, which has a meaning drunk or an overdose of drugs. The naming of the cool products, isn't it?

Ice Teler is known as natural and fresh. Ice teller consists of pieces of different types of fruits such as jackfruit, avocado, melon, apple, and papaya, assorted jelly colorful, pieces of bread, and kolang kaling. Then added the syrup, shaved ice, fresh coconut milk and sweet condensed milk on top of it. Ice Teler has a fresh flavor because of the different types of fruit used, sweetened condensed milk, and syrup to make it taste sweet, and savory taste from the coconut milk coconut.

For all menu cold dessert, I pay Rp. 24000,- (1.8 USD), the price is not expensive with flavor and freshness and we get the time to enjoy both the dessert.
