The Propagation update - my windowsill greenhouse

In my previous post Propagating from cuttings - my Garden journey I shared about my curiosity for propagating by cuttings and it’s been a month since this little project began.

I’ve since expanded into seedlings and have been so enamoured by the progress!

My Rosemary was a success growing strong roots on the cutting which is now ready to be planted in the garden. This success encouraged me to continue with Rosemary cuttings and I have expanded to 3 more plants that I am watering religiously and keeping an eye on!

Lentil plants - yes they’re in a cracked glads that I didn’t want to throw away so we are reusing

I planted Lentil seeds that were lying around in my kitchen and chia seeds that I usually sprinkle on my breakfast and both have sprung up and I’m very interested to see what happens next with both of these green plants. Where do I plant them next???

Snails are a big problem in our garden - they munch on my succulents through Summer and I’m not keen to let them get their slimy paws on my new plants.

I also planted a few flower seeds in a large soup mug which I’m guessing I should have planted straight in the ground. But again, the snails are a real struggle. Need advice on that front.

Calendula

I planted Borage, Cosmos, African Daisies and then in a separate pot I recently planted Calendula flowers. Now to watch and wait as they grow.

Lemon Tree Cutting update

I haven’t seen any movement on the lemon cuttings yet but I’m hoping that there is magic happening under that black soil. I’ve been watering daily and keeping an eye out in case the snails invaded. But so far it just looks the same.

How long until there is usually some new green life???

I have also planted Parsley, Coriander and Oregano and I’m yet to see any germination and the waiting is killing me. I know that some seeds take a few weeks to germinate so here’s hoping we will see some life next week.

My indigenous Table mountain plant cuttings seem to be happy and enjoying the environment of my back yard. I’ll plant them in the garden very soon trying to simulate the type of area where I found them.

Guava Tree Cutting

My guava tree cutting doesn’t look quite as happy as it did on the day that I did the transfer but again, I’m watering and waiting and praying this baby will take.

The plan is to grow fruit trees just outside my fence where it can be picked by neighbours to enjoy.

Send me your advise! I’d be so happy to receive it and do my best to follow any instructions. You can see that I’m an absolute novice and just giving it a go.
